The Battle of Ridgeway, 2 June 1866, was the first battle fought by the modern Canadian Army. Nine Canadians died in the fight against the Irish Republican Army, the military wing of the Fenian Brotherhood.
The official opening of the refurbished Ridgeway Battlefield Park and Museum will be held 1400-1600 Saturday 26 October at 3397 Garrison Road (aka County Rd 3) Ridgeway, ON. The site is on the SE corner of the battlefield in the general area where No. 10 Coy of the QOR attempted to outflank the Fenians. The two people in Canada who probably are most knowledgeable about the Fenian invasion of June 1866, Doctor Peter Vronsky and Lieutenant Colonel (ret) BA Reid aka Old Sweat, will be in attendance.
The museum includes some interactive displays and exhibits with some high quality maps.
