Is that a direct order, sir?  :D

But seriously, it was only a matter of time.  Has anyone actually seen the movie yet?  Comments?

How long did this take? I am suprised it took this long, figured they tie it into the Canadian premier.

Damn right it's an order

But, in all seriousness, from what I've seen, it's an entertaining flick, and it depicts the whole "Blood Diamond" situation quite accurately: as it was about 5 years ago when some 20% or so of ALL diamonds were of the blood variety.  Today, it stands at less than 1%.  IRONY ALERT: Hollywood is late jumping on the band wagon for this one.  Oh well, they may say?  Well, Sierra Leone, which is depicted in the film, actually is distributing its collective diamond wealth fairly well.  This film may keep people from buying diamonds from there, thus causing them more suffering.

Oh, Hollywood, when will you ever learn?

Of course you mean the Prime Minister (I take it you're french, and trust me, your french is WAY BETTER than my english, and I can tell from just this one sentence).

Sorry us Northerners can't type. I figured that they would tie it into the Movie Premier.

I didn't see it ...

My eyes were glued to the body of Daniel Craig in
Casino Royale, to focused to see anything else  :D !

(But I watch a bit of Oprah on the movie, does that count : )?

It the Attawapiskat First Nation  that is the community that is actually affected . According to the DeBeers website; that community voted 85% in favour of the Impact Benefit Agreement.

Just another land/cash grab.  I'm sure the protest didn't go out when they were prospecting.  Or test core drilling.  Or doing seismic vein analysis.  Funny how only confirmed mineral deposits end up being contested.
And spare me the "precious forest" argument.  You know as soon as they bog it down with BS arguments and DeBeers pulls pin they will be clear cutting that forest like an amature porn actor on their way to their first audition.

Oh the hell with Dicaprio, what are the chances of Hollyweird sending Jennifer Connelly here instead?  8)

I did last weekend. Its set in Sierra Leone (of course) in 1999, when the civil war reached its height. Its a fiction based on real events.

If anyone sees the movie or knows anything about the history of conflict diamonds then they know that the aboriginals are just sending smoke signals...or other hot gases up people butts.

When I see pictures of first nation people with their hands cut off, their women raped and disfigured, and their children brainwashed into become child solders and killing their own parents....then perhaps I will believe diamonds from N Ontario may be called "blood diamonds".

I find their comparison to what happened in Africa disgustingly "unpolitically" correct.

I think I found a new excuse this Christmas.

"Sorry honey, I wanted to buy you those diamond earings but I just couldn't come to grips with supporting an industry that clear cuts our precious forests and destroys the culture of our First Nations people... So intead I bought you this 60" Plasma TV, complete with universal remote and Dolby THX surround sound. Merry Chirstmas Sweetheart!  ;D"

...ands she'll be watching Oprah and Dr. Phil on it. And no sports for you, back of line!

But you can tell her that movies are way cool on it and Leonardo is soo...you know, on it.

I don't know how you can take any movement seriously when they want Leonardo Dicaprio.

Exactly, look what happened to the last ecological area he tried to help.

edit: actually it was water, not fire, that destroyed it.

I wonder which actor-vist will adopt this cause?

Now, if I could only figure out the Lotto winning number.

A murder of crows...

A pod of whales...

A pack of dogs...

A Baldwin of Actor-vists?
