Greetings everyone,

I’m in the midst of the online application process and currently sitting at 25%. I started the process on the 3rd of October 2025 and submitted my most recent task, the Personnel Screening, Consent and Authorization Form on the 18th of this month.

I originally wanted to enter via ROTP, however upon speaking with the recruiter after they received my high school and university transcripts(I didn’t finish university), my high school grades didn’t make the cut off for ROTP I was told. So I had to pivot, now I’m entering through the NCMSTEP. My first choice is Marine Technician via the NCMSTEP, second is Geomatics Technician via NCMSTEP, and my third choice will be Naval Combat Information Operator via direct entry.

Since I’m in a holding pattern until I hear back from the colleges that offer my NCMSTEP programs and the recruitment office, I figure I should try and get some hours at sea, even if it is on the civilian side. There was a marine expo this past weekend here in Toronto. There are a few good programs offered to get the average person squared away for a life of a seafarer that I’m going to take advantage of.

Can anyone shed any light on the next steps in the application process? Is the Personnel Screening, Consent and Authorization Form the start of the bottleneck as they do their background checks?

After being accepted into the NCMSTEP, what does a recruit do until classes start? For example, say I get my marching orders for BMQ to start in March, what does a recruit do between May and September? Is there anymore training available or mandatory? From what I read online, there is mention of splitting the BMQ and “required” training over the summer(s), but what if you have classes during the summer months?

Sorry for the rant and thanks in advance.
