IIRC, the IRA declared war on the rest of the Commonwealth as well, but I don’t think they committed any terrorist outrages against any Commonwealth targets that didn’t have a Northern Irish nexus.

Remember that First Nation all keen on getting an all-season road into their area as part of the Ring of Fire development? They're the red marker near the middle of NW Ontario on the map - that would be about 140 km or so south of the proposed Ring of Fire mineral development (the other yellow markers are other FNs litigating against Canada's/Ontario's Bill(s) C-5):

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaybe, but it's not like they're not getting money doing all the studies to get a road up there. As with most such stories, probably LOADS more going on behind the scenes.

This is just a government announcement of intention. No indication that a contract has been awarded (he said without checking the government website). This just for a bypass for the community of Geraldton (now part of Greenstone). The current route from Hwy 11 to Nakina runs through the middle of town.
They recent had to move Hwy 11 because it sat right on top of a new open pit gold mine.
This nowhere close to starting to build an all-weather road to the site.
On the other side of the aisle, Ontario liberal leader Bonnie a Crombie has resigned as party leader after getting only 57% support in her leadership review. Despite initially pledging to stay on, I would infer caucus ‘noped’ her politically.

One down, one to go. OLP and the ONDP both need to stop soiling the bed with their leadership choices. Give Ford an actual reason to work for those votes and not just give him those election wins for free.
If Marit Stiles stays on as leader, Nate Smith may be a viable choice to siphon off votes from the ONDP and possibly even form government in a few years. Otherwise the only viable candidate that comes to (my) mind is Jeff Lehman.

NES would be an interesting choice for the OLP. He has some profile for sure. Pretty young and dynamic.

Only, and only if Stiles steps down. NES burned a ton of bridges federally to a point where I don't think he'd be able to do it without siphoning off ONDP votes. Stiles has been a very bland leader, so if she's replaced by someone with actual drive he'd stand no chance.

Thanks for the insight on that. I’ve barely followed what’s happening provincially given we’re fresh into a new majority term.
