Just wondering what everyone's take on the piles of rolling crap they continuously roll out on the Discovery Channel....

Is this really entertainment or just a get rich quick scheme? How many of you out there knew of them prior to the series being aired? I'm guessing none.....

I watched a few and had a real hard time trying to stomach the entire idea behind it. It's mostly based around the father and the son's willingness to fight....am I right?

Your thought and ideas please.

Regards

It's good for a laugh if you aren't into choppers.
I've only caught one or two episodes, and they managed to intertwine interesting facts about building choppers (Baking the paint on, how they do chrome, etc.) in with the father and sons fighting.
As far as reality tv goes...I'd say it's better than "who wants to marry my father" hahaha

My big thing is I have worked on ground up bikes before....from bending DOM, TIG'in it, doing up mounts, pounding tanks from tin, setting up trannies, painting, plumbing and wireing etc.....

They really don't do anything more than put some pre fab stuff together and call it their own.....

I would LOVE to see Paul Jr actually do some engine work on an old 53 Pan or Shovel...nevermind a Knucklehead  ::)

Then it would actually be a one off bike. Mind you I like the fact that Paul Snr can't stand his son's slack and idle ways  ;D

Regards

So thats whats up with all the cheap T-shirts at the St. Jacob's farmers market last week-end.
Just about every booth had them, I thought maybe it was like a "biker thing" :blotto:
I need to watch more TV I guess. ::)

Yeah....every kid that thinks they're cool goes out and buys 'em. Look at Jesse James and West Coast Choppers....

Up until a couple years ago I was the only one with one of their actual "shop" T shirts...no one knew who he was except for the guys like me who actually ride and have met him at a few rallies. Good guy and one heck of a fabricator. Everything on his bikes is made on-site, less the engines and trannies...which he know's inside and out.

Just wait until Indian Larry and Billy Lane get noticed. I can hardly wait!

That is not an illusion....it is actually hubless!

I agree about all the prefab stuff.  Just about everything they put on their bikes looks to be someone elses product and even the paint jobs are contracted out.  If I was running a quote-unquote "custom" bike shop, that Paul Jr guy wouldn't be working there with his attitude.  One thing I certainly don't doubt is the fact they're rolling in dough now.

Discovery's Monster House ticks me off even more. Don't get me started on all these home decor shows and the Home Depot.  Blue Collar for life.

Ok, yeah their bikes are mostly mix and matching of others products, but you gotta admit that the bikes look really good when they're done ;D :o

Ever have the chance to take a REALLY good look at the welds they do? GARBAGE!

Just remember....chrome won't get you home but black will get you back!

Regards

Everything is made in his shop, tanks are made out of COPPER, rear brakes are from a '38 Merc and the front down tube is from a 29 Model A (I think)

That is a sweet bike it looks like it should be in a museum of art. I just got my motorcycle licences a year ago. You wouldn't want to ride for a long trip your ass would be hurting.  About the t-shirts showing up everwhere i attended a local college in Ottawa and they were selling them there at local selling tables.  Me thinks Orange county Choppers is not getting its money.  They also had Jessie James t-shirts too.

Cheers

I like watching the show cause it agitates my mom.
She hates how they swear and fight.
It's funny to see them get so angry at each other.

The father and son reminds me of me and my dad.  ;D

That's all they do is argue....on cue of course. The other son....Mike I think...  ::)

Just fire him already

Regards

So now they have a line of cologne......clocks......die cast cars(?)......and

PEDAL BIKES!

Will it ever end?

Regards

One show I liked that came off discoverys line of "Reality TV" was "The Deadliest Catch" It followed a few different boats during the 1 and a half long Alaskan Oiplio Crab season.
For those that don't know alaskan crab fishing id reportedly the most dangerous job in the "first" world. (One boat sunk during the season killing 5 on board and 1 man fell over board and drown"
I liked it because it was so real, there wasn't a father son fight and there isn't a bunch of crap Merch. It was just about a group of guys working there hardest against the clock to bring in the crab. one boat pulled in enough crab that all the crew made $30,000 a piece (not bad for a week and a half)

I doubt that Indian Larry is going to get noticed anymore since he has been deceased since last August.   He did make some great bikes though.

Have to agree with Franko here. The OCC stuff is nothing more than the motorcycle version of a kit car. I've been into bikes for a number of years as well, I don't claim to be a builder but can turn a wrench to get past basic engine troubles etc...

The scripted (heavily scripted) drama - I use the term loosely is a little much to take the few times I have watched their show. One of their bikes came through our town on a tour of sorts. It was on display at the Canadian Tire here in town, myself and a few others went to have a look. It was nice, but the guy who was shuttling it around wouldn't even start it up.

Posted that WAY before Larry's death........... Paul Cox is running the shop now and Bambi is still around as well,  as is most of the crew.

I believe they started out as a metal working company and they got into custom bikes.  I can't stand the show - and as for their bikes - why aren't they part of Discovery's 'Great Biker Build-off.'
