Past Mental Health Issues

While entering adolescents I had a couple months of mental health issues. A psychiatrist, who I was sent to see, deemed me no risk to myself or others and stated that he believed it "would pass" as he had seen it occur to other young people entering adolescents. I can't recall how he explained it, but he described it a it as a developmental issue.

Needless to say, he was right, in a few months time it passed and I have never experienced anything like it since. I was 15/16 at the time. I am now 24.

The issues were characterized by mood changes and, at times, hearing inaudible things that were, of course, not there.

I'm not sure if it is in my "official" health record or not but I'm sure about what stance the Military takes in regards to past mental health issues. Is it a cross the board no or is it evaluated on a case by case basis.

Thanks,

I don't think you'll find a definitive answer here. The only way to find out for sure is to apply and deal with it when medical time comes. You will have your chance after the paperwork to explain anything of concern.

Shady is correct. No one on here is qualified to give you a 100% answer. From my experiences with the Medical, just be honest and tell them the truth. I was having issues with my family a year prior to applying so I went to family counselling, I was completely honest with the Medic who was doing my medical, she just simply asked if I was prescribed medication, and so forth. If it comes time for your medical and the person conducting your medical has an issue with it they will ask for more information from the psychiatrist.
