I recently applied for my Old Age Security pension and after a lot of
paper shuffling i was granted a pension of 20/40s based on 20 years of
Canadian residency. However I did 26 years of service in the Canadian
Forces. The justification for cutting 25% of this pension was that I did
not take up residence in Canada upon retirement and therefore my last 5
years of service in Germany I was not a resident of Canada. DND and
the tax folks recognised me as a resident of Ontario when I was serving
over here how come Human Resources can claim this is not the case.
This is not just a decision made by a bureaucrat but is backed up by their
regulations,I feel this is unfair and prejudicial to members of the military
who serve the country overseas.
Anyone out there who have suffered the same IMO injustice or has
any ideas what could be done to get this changed?.
