Rumours of a pending Coup in Moscow. Even if Putin was successfully removed from power, there is no guarantee that his replacement might not be even more of a hawk than he is. Even if a power faction gained control that wanted peace, I suspect they would not change anything, but start serious talks how to drawdown without looking like they are losing. My guess would be they would want to keep Crimea and have a guaranteed water supply and possibly a land rail link?

Crimea's tourism sector has become increasingly reliant on domestic visitors since Russia annexed the peninsula from Ukraine in 2014. About 80% of tourists travel there by car, making fuel availability a critical factor during the summer season.

Yelena Shtringel, director of tour company TurEtno, told the RBC news website that around 80% of previously booked June trips had been canceled, along with roughly half of reservations for July and August.

"There are a small number of new bookings, but they are for August and September," she said.

According to Shtringel, tourists began actively booking summer vacations at the end of 2025, and the company had already achieved 60% to 70% of its sales targets by the May holidays. Cancellations accelerated after fuel supply problems emerged, she said.

There has been "rumours" before, but other events seem to add weight to the possibility, of course a "coup" can be orchestrated by Putin to expose the disloyal (always a risk). I am not holding my breath or putting any money on the table.

Maybe not a traditional coup but I can see something like balkanization happening, the eastern side of the country especially. It's almost entirely serviced by a handful of oligarchs and their businesses now thanks to the war, right down to the police forces.
