I am a below average fool suffering in BMQ. I have had two ECPC failures so far and it's only a matter of time until I get another. I just want to know what will happen to me.

The first one was for getting too many swipes for stupid mistakes. I was recoursed and got into a new platoon. The second ECPC was from leaving the key in a lock which was supposed to secure the issued laptop and tac vest. They saw it and I felt like shit considering it was my first day out of indoctrination period! Tomorrow I have the gun handling test which I might fail. I have practiced but I am not perfect. If I don't fail that, the drill test is a bigger threat next week which will also get me an ECPC fail.

What are they going to do in the PRB when they see the incompetent scrub that I am? The staff and guys on my platoon keep telling me to stay positive but that's really hard.

Amateurs practice until they get it right.

Professionals practice until they cannot get it wrong.

Work at being a professional. Coming on here to mope about it won't help you. You could be doing weapons handling drill practice instead, which will help you pass.

Dude, you're gonna be OK but you need to change the attitude.

I was regularly chastised for the first four years of my career and told I was inadequate in many ways. I have been charged a couple of times and I was almost removed from RMC for just generally being a shithead.

The first thing you need to do is stop with the self-deprecation.

Get some swagger in your step and a bit of panache. Stop worrying about what they are going to do to you and when you get the opportunity to back yourself. Do it.

Do you know that willingness to disregard 'the rules' is a common trait of highly successful people and as the old saying goes:

A students become Academics, B students become Bureaucrats, C students become CEOs 😉

You have a shot at CEO yet my friend!

Gonna echo what everyone else is saying here, and add this...

Do you know what you call someone who graduated at the bottom of their class at medical school? Doctor.

The staff at CFLRS isn't looking to fail you; they are looking to see if you learn from your mistakes. No one, and I mean NO ONE gets through BMQ unscathed. We are all human, and we all make mistakes. It's how we deal with the mistakes that forges us into who we were meant to be. A broken sword has the potential to be re-forged into a beautiful damascus steel blade, if worked properly. You have a choice. Be the pile of broken steel chunks, or collect your pieces, jump back into the fire, and forge something better.

Good luck, my dude.

You even said that "The staff and guys on my platoon keep telling me to stay positive". You have support, it sounds like the only one standing in your way is yourself.

It sounds like you need to stop wallowing in self pity and just stay busy, keep at it and basic training will be over before you know it. Afterwards, perhaps you'll have a bit more confidence in yourself. It doesn't matter if you're at the bottom or top of your platoon, the goal is just to pass and move on to the next thing.

First, change your mindset from “I’m a failure” to “I am going to succeed, I have support from my team and staff”.

Practice. Practice some more, and don’t stop. Even the “best” makes mistakes. You only get better as long as you change that mind set and do not give up.

If you have a buddy, get them to help you with practicing.

You must have had A LOT of mistakes to get recoursed.

You didn't go through a PRB the first time you were recoursed?

This - positive self talk - the negative self talk will ensure you fail.

Yes that's correct. They weren't too mad at me for making those mistakes. I was recoursed to week 2. I have made different mistakes and not the same anymore.

It takes me a lot of issues and time to get on the right path. This sort of thing has happened many times throughout my life such as learning to drive a car.

I practiced with my friends and alone many times. I passed but just barely. I came close to failing like 5 times.

You should consider figuring out what kind of learner you are and apply the appropriate studying tips. This is one example that might help.

Forget staying positive. Get in the headset of shaking it off and coming at things for what they are. Bite off little bits. Next is the weapons handling. Then when you get by that you can work on drill.

If you do not learn to shake off your failures that will be what undoes you. None of this is complicated- it only gets that way when you get into your own head.

If you screw up, take a lesson from it and do better next time. If you get nervous about your failures or start convincing yourself that’s what will happen that’s what WILL happen.

You’re in it until you aren’t. your headspace will be off the course before you’re actually physically off the course.
