I was sort of surprised to hear about the pot (10,000 +) plants confiscated by CDN military police, is it true? Can civilians get access to a military reservation to plant and harvest the product? This post is not meant to point out anything....don‘t read too deep into my post. In the US there are plenty of illegal drugs!

Personally, I fail to see what the big deal is about growing pot. Maybe it‘s just because I‘m from BC, but **** , in this part of town, three grow-ups were busted in the period of two weeks. I swear to god one in three houses grows it. In my highschool alone, 10% of the kids have their own lil grow-ops...

Aquilus growing pot is illegal.

I think the Major was more surprised at how easy it is for civilians to access military bases.

Sir i don‘t think you would believe me if i described our security of lack there of.

Yes, I know growing pot is illegal, so is smoking it...for the most part. However, that still does not stop more than half the population from doing it.

My post was just an aside.

I think he was referring to half of British Columbia‘s population :D

Do the CDN forces have drug testing?

When first joining yes. I‘ve heard of surprise checks (like in CFB kingston last year) but those are very few and far between.

Canadian Military Reserve‘s are closed to the public but our range‘s are large so policing is practicly impossible.

In the State‘s on the Ft.Lewis Military Reservation amphetimine lab‘s have been found never mind the dumping of the hazardous waste from these op.‘s produce.

It really wouldnt suprise me to find out that 11,000 outdoor plants are simply growing wild. Maybe someone planted a couple, left them there, and now there is a huge patch that has sprung up over the years. It is a weed after all. 11,000 is a lot of planting, and it would be stupid to plant any kind of crops on an artillery range, at least in my opinion. Then again, it‘s a good place to plant something you don‘t want to be found I guess. There wouldn‘t be quite as many trespassers on DND property I would think.

In BC every summer when the RCMP go looking for outdoor grow ops in their helicopters, they find literaly tonnes of pot. They don‘t "confiscate" it though, they simply chop it down, pile it up and light it on fire.

I wonder if they wouldn‘t get farther by promoting responsible marijuana use (like they do alcohol) as opposed to just banning the stuff altogether. You see that cigarettes are addictive, and harmful, but people still smoke them; only through education "cigaretes will kill you, cigarettes will make your lings look like xx" do people NOT take it up. Personally, I‘d rather have marijuana in my neighbourhood that crystal meth, coke, or PCP.

Myself, I‘ve only had 3 drags on a joint, last February, so I‘m no voice of experience. Stupid thing, I wish I HADN‘T; hope it won‘t be a problem. I‘M SORRY SIR!!!

Yeah, and people are f‘ing stupid and selfish, too. How many tax dollars go to health care as opposed to the military? And how many health care dollars are spent on people who had NO INCENTIVE to take care of themselves, polluted themselves with carcenogins, and now rely on YOUR money to cure them of lung cancer, liver disease, and everything else that comes with dependence on these legal substances?

Why promote even more unhealthy lifestyles - just because people are weak and stupid and selfish and getting moreso with each passing year?

We can‘t afford to fix the Vimy Memorial, but we can afford MRIs for people who smoked themselves half to death? Something wrong there somewhere. And you want to legitimize marijuana use and create even more deadheads out on the street? No thanks.

"And how many health care dollars are spent on people who had NO INCENTIVE to take care of themselves, polluted themselves with carcenogins, and now rely on YOUR money to cure them of lung cancer, liver disease, and everything else that comes with dependence on these legal substances?"

Take a look outside, and what do you see, people who don‘t take care of themselve, people who drive to the store that‘s a block down the street. People who make, fast-food there lifestyle choice. People, who eat their main meal of day at 2 in morning.... knowing it make them fat. Dependence is not based on whether a substance is legal or not. So say pot shouldn‘t be legal because of burden to the heath care... just just don‘t make the grade. There are a lot of people who would go out and buy just enough to have a fun on a saturday night... and who don‘t what the headaches of beer.

"Why promote even more unhealthy lifestyles - just because people are weak and stupid and selfish and getting moreso with each passing year?"

Prove to be that pot is is unhealthy if done in control amount... and is any more unhealthy than never walking, eating fast-food, drinking too much coffee, watching TV everynight or playing computer games? Or for that matter spending 1 or more in traffic every day just to get work... where you sit on a$$ all day and then driving home for another plus hour.

"YOUR money" its not just your money its their money and their money pays for Your bad habits.

Another Officer retirement plan gone astray.
They were just trying to make a living people, times are hard. :salute:

To get back to the major‘s question on base security, there is little to none in many of the large training areas, especially in BC. I know a lot of little infanteer wannabes who go out every weekend into active training areas and ‘play‘ army. They get away with this because there is so much land and so few soldiers. If I am right, the training areas in the States are used on a weekly basis, and sometimes there are even shortages of space. But out here, our training areas are so large that much of it can go months, even years without being used. And with an MP driving down the only main road in that area would have a hard time picking out any type of plant, even if he was looking for it. If you still don‘t understand sir, try and take a trip to Chilliwack BC. The training areas have been stagnant except for the summer use of reservists. One drive along the mountain roads will show you how difficult it would be to police them. Half of the CF would have to made up of MPs.

It is really not a big secret. There were p*t plants seized in the Kingston trg area around 84.
Detection was by accident, and it was well organized from what they had said.
Kinda like growing the stuff behind the copshop, one of the last places, one would think to look.

Another thought to ponder: most likely sited by mil members as most civilians would not know the least used areas of a trg area.
