Greenland has the laxest prison system in the world.

http://newsdesk.org/2008/11/prison_in_green/

The small island of Greenland is home to one of the most lax prison systems in the world, where most convicts are free to leave during the day and are only locked up overnight.

Radio Netherlands said Greenland’s convicts spend the first tenth of their sentence in lock-down, but if their conduct is good enough, they can progress to the open prison system, in which prison doors are locked only from 9:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m.

Peter Kristensen, director of Greenland’s prison system, told RN the open-prison system emphasizes prisoner rehabilitation rather than punishment, adding that “we only have 56,000 people in Greenland, and we can’t afford to lose any of them.”

Prisoners are allowed to work regular jobs, study, visit family and friends, and enjoy amenities like movie and music facilities inside the detention centers.

Prisoners are even allowed to carry guns on weekend hunting trips — the only time they are accompanied by armed prison guards.

The more serious offenders do not qualify for this regime, and instead have been sent to a conventional prison in Denmark.

However, the system is currently being reformed, and a new prison with both open and closed elements is being constructed on Greenland so that all convicts will have access to familial visits.

Just posting a news article on here. Happens all the time on other forums, SO WHY THE HELL CAN'T IT BE DONE HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

Now, the article is that Greenland has a lax prison system than our own where inmates can go shopping outside the prison.

This is where you usually rave about inmates.

I suppose I could say to our just bounced dweebo that the reason it's so lax there is because there's nowhere to go if they run away...except a glacier or six, an ice flow shared with a polar bear, etc.  I guess there is the thriving metropolis of Thule to hang out at.  Could also be a form of aboriginal justice not unlike some seen here in Canada on occasions.

Not overly upset about seeing our resident phuquetard gone though .

I've got to make this point:

Allowing prisoners out during the day poses no flight risks here in Greenland. One look at the place would tell you that.

As to why chris posted this...I can only assume that an oil company hired him for his merc skills to do a recce on Greenpeace. Too bad the Esperanza sailed south a few weeks ago. Better luck next time, bub.
