In CAF reserves, can someone be promoted from private to cpl in less than a Year?
In CAF reserves, can someone be promoted from private to cpl in less than a Year?
the reason for that is that on of my friends had promoted to Cpl as we finished BMQ together on March 2024. He's an INT. that's why I'm asking if it's possible to make it?
Reference is CFAO 49-5(20).
The original intent was to replace all the CFAOs and have the work completed before Y2K.The switching from CFAOs to DOADs has got to be one of the worst-coordinated changes. It has been over 10 years and we are still referencing CFAOs, especially for something as important as promotions.
I know that organizations are short staffed but we really need to fix this. I was thinking it is bad that we still have not switched from Queen's Regulations and Orders to King's Regulations and Orders but what is two years compared to over a decade?
At this point would seem like a punishment posting to go to a CFAO update project. The original intent was to replace all the CFAOs and have the work completed before Y2K.
Wot?The original intent was to replace all the CFAOs and have the work completed before Y2K.
There's a good chance that the timing will not be met.Wot?
Maybe Y3K?There's a good chance that the timing will not be met.
Not sure. Been retired for 6 years. As a former WO, I say no you should not be promoted to CPL early. Its two lousy years and passes by in a flash of time. Trust me, you could use the experiences to make you a more seasoned soldier. In CAF reserves, can someone be promoted from private to cpl in less than a Year?
What difference does it make to season as a Pte or as a Cpl? We advance promote every Avr to Cpl in the RCAF. No issues observed. Not sure. Been retired for 6 years. My Squadron CWO agrees with advanced promotions, so do all the Sgt/WO/MWOs. I hold regular 1 on 1 with WOs/MWOs and officers, and hold meeting with every other rank levels in group settings and that was never raised as an issue. I will ask specifically in my next set of meetings with them.Well, sir, from an ARMY perspective, let me tell how we view things. Corporals are viewed as very experienced and and seasoned (The guy or girl that helps the young troops fit in and get their pacing), this makes them very valuable in the infantry, armour, artillery, engineers, service battalions, etc.
Giving someone a rapid promotion to Corporal (especially at a year!), doesn't sit well with me. It becomes nothing more than an extra pay grade and cheapens the corporal rank.
I don't know how you guys in the RCAF function, but I would love to hear from an RCAF NCO or WO views on this. Not a pilots view. Don't get me wrong, your probably one hell of a fighter pilot and could kick Mavericks ass in BFM, but leading troops? I think have many years experience over you. My opinion not fact.
That sounds like a quality of life approach to advanced promotion vs recognizing leadership/merit approach. My Squadron CWO agrees with advanced promotions, so do all the Sgt/WO/MWOs. I have led north of 200 people at any given time for many years, in various trades (mostly but not all RCAF). I think I have at least some relevant experience in leading people.

1 CMBG had an unofficial policy of advance promoting pretty much every Pte to Cpl at 3 years as a way of offsetting QOL during the oil patch boom. Continued long after (and may still) because it gives a QOL boost and as @SupersonicMax points out it means almost nothing if someone matriculates as a Pte or a Cpl these days
FWIW I agree with your viewpoint and did/would do the same. I just know in practice it isn't how most view it.Thats fair. I have a very jurassic view on the rank of corporal and what it should mean/imply. When someone is promoted to cpl I always take them aside to explain how important their rank is and the importance of being an NCO. Its an incredible responsibility etc..
They're polite enough not to roll their eyes infront of me
