IIRC the right english word is "Smoke discharger". (In german they are called "Nebelbecher".)

After seeing the attached pic I though maybe someone interests this.

On this welding you can easily identify an Leo2 which was originally an A3 or lower. Originally this was an hatch for ammo resupply, but starting from A4 it was deleted. (An turret hit could deform/open it and ABC protection would be broken.) On all earlier versions it was welded with the hull as you can see here.

ABC protection would be broken  ??? Shouldn't that be NBC?

Thanks for the more complete explanation....I did not know about the multi-spectral aspect, but WP I am intimately familiar with.

ironduke57,  I have just watched your videos and I will stand by what I've said in a previous post... "You have not lived until you have run over a car"!

I believe the commonly used multi spectrum smoke is called "VIRUS" but I wont say who and what may or may not use it.

Based on uniforms and terrain, believe they are Austrian or Swiss L2A4s... however I may stand to be corrected!
First the comment stats that they are swiss. ;)
Second swiss Leopard2´s (there called Panzer87) are easily to identify as the developed and use an muffler for there engines.
You can good see it on this pic (of this new Batmobile ;)):

Poor Robin has to sit on top of the turret.

Is that a Leo 1A4 in the background?  I'm guessing that because of the angular turret and the commander's periscope and the sight...

(Help with key elements from that link)

For the "anglos", the Danes originally purchased 120 Leo 1 A3 (DK).  In 1989, they purchased a further 110 used Bundeswehr Leo 1s (Models A3 and A4).
Between 1990 and 1994 all 230 Leo 1s were upgraded to the 1A5 (Danish) standard.

Eisenherzog57: Vielen Dank!

'Battlefield bullies' bring comfort to Cdn troops
April 25, 2007

FORWARD OPERATING BASE MA'SUM GHAR, Afghanistan (CP) - They're Canada's bullies of the battlefield - and they're a welcome presence that help Canadian troops sleep better at night.

The 12 Leopard 1 tanks that rumble several times a day out of this base west of Kandahar provide indisputable muscle to Canada's security efforts as they prowl on "presence patrols" in the Panjwaii and Zhari districts.

Sgt. Anthony Sewards of the Edmonton-based Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians) armoured regiment, says the intimidation factor of the tanks is an invaluable weapon.

So too are the multi-pronged plows attached to the front of some of the machines - the perfect defence against the all-too-common mines and improvised explosive devices in volatile southern Afghanistan.

Capt. Craig Volstad says when it's attached to a tank, the plow is probably the most valuable piece of Canadian equipment on the battlefield.

Soldiers with the Lord Strathcona's Horse are looking forward to breaking in a fleet of more modern Leopard 2s when they arrive from Germany some time this summer.

"So we've had some interesting discussions," said Maj.-Gen. Durbin. "Canada is one nation. You've got Germany. Even New Zealand has Leopards."

No, actually, they don't.  Australia did until recently.

There's a pretty big leap from a NATO (American) General saying that this might be a good idea to actually putting it into place.  Until decisions are made regarding the entire disposition of the fleet, any such chatter is pure speculation.
