Tehran denies that Putin is in danger. At least Putin has a heads up. Attacking Putin in Tehran isnt in the best interest of the mullah's thats for sure.

A spokesman for Iran's foreign ministry, Mohammad Ali Hosseini, denied any such plot had been uncovered, characterizing the news as disinformation spread by Iran's adversaries.

"These sort of reports are completely baseless and in direction with psychological operations of enemies of relations between Iran and Russia," Hosseini said in a statement.

Evidently the Russians caught a Chechen near the Iranian border and under questioning, which I am sure didnt involve torture,revealed the plot involved several Chechen gangs and a Taliban group who all wanted some payback.

I personally, can't think of a better situation than to have him assassinated in Iran. That should cool diplomatic relations for awhile, besides causing a vacuum between them and Russia. Technical aid and expertise would stop flowing to Iran. Gives the rest of us some breathing room. Besides, would it be really bad, if Russia had a real reason to hate Iran and go after one of their own?

Although it's interesting news,

I have a hard time to understand the "possible" Iranian motives to do so. Maybe I missed something...

Yes, would be interesting to know. Anyway, not really smart move from the Iranian side (if true anyway). I'm sure the russians can hold their own (intelligence wise) and probably have a wide net of contacts in Iran...now what? Sanctions? No more Russian weapons sales to Iran?

Some group was planning to kill Putin, I don't think so. Just another Russian tactic to divert attention from what is actually going on.
This "so called" attempt on Putin's life will provide an excuse for Russia to carry out appraisals on any group they say was involved.
