just out of curiosity, what are the QLs (ex.QL3, QL4) stand for and what are they

They no longer exist, as the system was changed on the wim of some brass who wanted to appear looking busy.

The new "DP" system, which replaced the "QL" system, which replaced the "TQ" system, works like this for the Infantry

NCM DP1 Infantryman = Basic Trade Training
NCM DP2(A) Inf Pl Sp Wpns
NCM DP2(B) Inf Sect 2IC
NCM DP3(A) Inf Sect Comd
NCM DP3(B) Inf Pl 2IC
NCM DP 4 Inf CSM

I‘m assuming that all the old QL4 courses, such as Recce, Comms, Driver, etc, are now classifed as DP2(A)‘s. Can anyone confirm this?

Something like that. You do them during the DP2 phase but wether they have that DP moniker I not sure of. (I had QL courses). From what I have seen of late is that (at least in Reserve world) you are qualified Cpl straight off of your DP1. Personally I think that is garbage, and their are other problems, such as when you go on DP2A you are expected to have already learned about the C6 it‘s characteristics and components on your SQ. For people like myself who were on reserve QL3 course‘s you were lucky if you even saw the C6. So their are fault‘s with the system.

TQ was "Trade Qualification"
QL replaced TQ and it was "Qualification Level"
Now we have DP and it could stand for "Displaced Person" for all I know. :D

Why some dimwit in Ottawa has to sit around doing nothing all day but think up things to change and keep us all confused is beyond me. They really ought to get a real life/job.

The old QL4 crses fit in around and in between the DP2 and DP 3time frame. You will have to check to see which ones are pre-requistes for futher DPs (or development periods).

At least with the new sysytem, a reservists can see his/her entire career progession unlike before that was a hodge-podge that was cobbled together as time went by. I don‘t care if people are pissed at the change, at least this system goes from bootom to top, and my hope is that it stays for the next 10-20ys to give a chance to work. (not saying it doesn‘t require fine tuniing)

How many out there with over 20 yrs can name all the changes from BMT/GMT to BMQ, TQ 1 to QL3. If I remember correctly, my basic gunner crse was Pay Level C.

DP stands for developmental period and all the information regarding this subject can be found here:

http://www.forces.gc.ca/admfincs/subjects/daod/5031/8_e.asp

QL levels still exist and are used on all conditional offers and on CF personal records.

Thanks, Koach, that helped explain a lot.

I was wondering about the DP system, myself.
