Hello everyone,

I'm currently in my grad week here in the wonderful place we all call the mega, and I was wondering if anyone could answer a few questions some of us future med techs have (3 of us in the platoon):

1.  Do we still do SQ
2.  When is the next course starting in Borden?

Rumors have been flying around here lately about trades people not having to do SQ, and our staff and clerks tell us that maybe yes maybe no.  We also don't have our posting orders yet, and they won't tell us when to expect them, probably on grad day or close to it we're thinking.

thanks in advance

those rumors are false all CSS trades are going to be doing SQ

I'm a remuster at CFMSS on our second week right now.  Yes you do have to SQ to be a medic, without a doubt because you will be working alongside one of the combat arms trades sometime in your career.  There is a QL3 CC that starts in Feb, the 26th I believe.  And they only run two QL3 anglo's at a time, so you will have to wait until at least our course is done, but were there have a lot of medic's waiting at PRETC right now, you might not start your course until the summer at some point in time.  Some people on my course waited close to a year before they got to do there courses.

All Medics do SQ, regardless if your goin Army, Navy or Air Force. Only Army trade I know that doesnt have to do SQ is band. Everyone else does it.

We don't mind doing SQ, since we know we'll be on the front lines with the combat arms teams, and those skills will most definately come in handy.  Too bad about waiting so long for the 3's course, at least it's time in and paid, and if I have to wait that long, I can put in to have my wife accompany me in borden.

Thanks for the info

I'd check the ETP message that issued by the recruiting center and make sure that you are not on an imposed restriction.  Because if you are, she can't move, and since you are required to live in barracks for course, where will she live.  You are better off staying in shacks, getting the publically paid R&Q and seperation expense, because even if she does come here, you will lose all that.
And when you go to JI, what are you going to do with your wife, who now has spent three months in a new city where you aren't around and your sent off to BC for another 3 months.
I'm married too and my wife isn't allowed to move here.

You'll be on IR in Borden on your QL 3. My 3's was one of the 9 month long ones.

Three weeks is not a long time to wait for a course. In fact it is pretty standard. They use the time to ensure you have everything you need to get ready for your course.

You and your coursemates should use it by going to the gym and working out  (cardio & strength) no less then an hour a night.

Medics coming to the fd units are notoriously under fit, and if any of you want to go overseas....thats is not the way to impress people.

It would definatley be shitty if I can't move my wife with me in borden.  Cause it'll make almost a year that we'll be apart if not more, but if she can't be moved then she can't at least I'm only a few hours away from home.  Seperation pay is nice, espcially when you actually get it, I guess it all depends on the course requirements and the length I'd be in Borden for. We'll deal with that one when the time comes after SQ.

Get used to it. You'll be away from her 6-9 month of the yr soon enough.

Exactly, my fiance is half way across the country and I haven't seen her since Jan 2, and I won't be seeing here again until about 10 days before our wedding in July.  If you get sent over seas, it will be about 7 months without being at home.  If you excel in the medical trade and want to be a PA, your course is over two years long were your wife can't come to Borden and then BC again with you while you are on course.
