Hi i am in need of some help.  I am making a shadow box for my mom for christmas next year.  Anyway she was in the navy before i was born.  I have a picture of her in her uniform.  I am looking for the insigina on her cover.  It is i think called a fouled anchor.  But i can not seem to find this anywhere.  Also she was a journailst seaman and i can not find her rank anywhere either.  if some could help it would be appreciatated.  thanks

I am curious if your mother was in the USN by some of your term usage.

If your mom was in the US navy she was a JOSN by your description JO = journalist (her rating specialty) and SN = seaman (her rate, or rank.) Look up the insignia by following the links from here http://www.chinfo.navy.mil/navpalib/ranks/rankrate.html

Her cover insignia is the same as the cap badge for chief petty officers, I think.

I didn't want to start a new thread, so I'm hi-jacking commandeering (better naval term :D) this one.

Alors, my fellow RMC NCDT's and I are now entitled to slap on our maritime badges. I came across one which I've never seen before, and I'm wondering if it is indeed permitted for wear?? ???

Merci bien!

This is the old RCN cap badge....as Geo says pre 1952. Today's badge is similar except with Maple Leafs instead of oak leaves. It is only worn by MARS, MARE and CSE. If you are sea log you were the cross paper clips!
