Hello

My name is Adam Reimer, a former Cadet in the 2332 Major Holland Armouries in ottawa ontario   :cdn:. For the last three years i have proudly worn the black burret and the RCD (Royal Canadian Dragoon) cap brass.

I am 16 (almost 17) and have already submitted a request for a position in the 1st field artillery regiment in Halifax Nova Scotia (i just moved from ottawa).

In Halifax, there are no armored cores, and no black burrets in the ground forces. In halifax, the Navy wears black burrets.

{I am just wondering if anyone else finds that weird, and because im looking for an armored like reserve core, if artillery should be my next choice.

Note, i just came back from CFB aldershot from a cadet excersice (my last one hopefully) and dident really like how the artillery core is setup because we sleep in barracks, and not outdoors like i prefer.

Thank you

(Edited to correct the spelling in the thread title)

hmmm i have never seen it before i came to Halifax. I had a bavy band officer and he wore the normal hat with the shade thing going over his head (im sorry that i do not know the name)

The Armoured Corps has worn black berets since its formation over 60 years ago. The Navy never wore berets until CF unification about 1968. They then were given to wear the CF green beret as were almost every else in the CF, less Armour, Airborne and a few special trades. When we split back into separate uniforms in the late 80s? (memory is good, but short), the navy recieved a new headress.."navy blue" in colour (funny thing is that it is the same NSN as ours in the RCAC). They still call it navy blue.

As for your Aldershot trip etc, the guns actually spend lots of time on the ground. The unit here in NB practically never trains except in the field with their guns. I expect that 1st Field is much the same. It depends on what the training is. If it is the kind of stuff you do in garrison you normally stay in the shacks. Don't fret, there will lots of time on the ground, regardless of the hat badge.

As for no Armoured Corps units in H'fax, too bad. Should have moved to Moncton or Charlottetown..the Guns are okay though.

I know a lot of people in the Halifax Rifles association would love for that regiment to be stood up again but I think their requests have fallen on deaf ears so far. Too bad, would be nice to see that regiment reborn.

CFB Aldershot is pretty much supports Reserves in the summer and now there running PLQ for Navy and people from Greenwood go there too, If there was field time in the woods they wouldn't like it (LOL), but they enjoy doing field time and staying in the shack and thats roughing if for us Airforce (no hotel) and I'm sure the navy would hate the field too. I don't think they have a big training area, that would be down in Granville where most of us did field for basic training.

we have time int he field as well..... ::) it depends on current taskings....
