Question: Time spent on training

Hi.   This my first post on these forums after around a week of browsing, but I have not been able to find an answer for my question.

I'm currently 16 (will turn 17 mid-January) and interested in joining the Reserves (education requirements met).   I don't have plans to stop/quit school for an extended period and I don't know how to drive (properly) yet, so I want to take the summer BMQ course.   I understand that if I am enrolled and everything goes well, basic training should take 10 weeks and I will return to school in time for the start.

My question is:   Will I spend time (weekends?) throughout the next year training in my selected trade(s), or can I begin SQ training at a reasonably later date?

Edit:  My apologies if this belongs somewhere else.

As of now, reserve BMQ is still 4 weeks, while SQ is another 4 weeks long. You can take both of these in the same summer. During the year you would be expected to parade with your unit 1 night a week and a couple of weekends a month, to go on exercises and such. You'd most likely do your trades training the following summer.

Hope that helps somewhat, but a search will answer these and many other questions you may have.

Ah, thanks.  That clears up a lot of things  :salute:

I'll be sure to be more thorough in my search.

hey,

I was talking with my recruiter today (just starting application process for primary reserve) and he told me that it would be 2 weeks for BMQ, 2 weeks for SQ and around 2 and a half weeks for arty training. So I am a little confused now. Do different reserve regiments have different training plans?
