Hi there, new to the board. I'm on the verge of 30 here, female, possibly looking to embark on a new life within the CF. Here's my question. I'm wondering if there are any relatively "entry" level positions which may utilize some of my already existing skills (i.e I'm a veterinary technologist and have other legitimate but potentially "useless" disciplines).

I'm working on the physical...the run seems impossible right now but I'm going to have to be able to complete that for any involvement in the CF, right?

This world is totally alien to me, so pardon me for being a little lost regarding these things...
I'm going to go visit a recruiter but personal information would be appreciated.
Is this the place to ask these things or should I go hang around Fort York and hide in the bushes with a notebook lol.

Thanks. :)

What about any nun chuck skills, bow hunting skills or computer hacking skills?  Those also looks good on the resume.  ;D

Nun chuck skills aside.  The easiest thing about the getting in the military is you do not require any skills.  Having some is a nicety.  We will give them to you when you need them.  If you feel you will be stronger in the medical field then go Medic.  I am uncertain on this but, we do have dogs in service (taking care of them is not likely an entry level position, although you never know).

As far as the physical training goes.  All persons will have to meet the basic standard regardless of trade.  After that, the standard does sway and get harder depending on trade i.e. Infantry or any Cbt Arms.  Medics may fall into this category as well depending on your location.

The only real answer is go see a recruiter.  I am sure this thread will get shut down because many people ask questions like this and always get the same answer.  "Go see a recruiter".  You are not bound or obligated to anything by going in and talking.  You can do all preliminary paperwork, wait for a good trade as long as you like and never even join if you don't want.  Maybe consider reserves if your reluctant.  Your basic skills learnt there would be transferrable if you choose to go regular force.

Unfortunately, the Canadian Army no longer has a veterinary corps (we used to and in fact, the British Army still does).  All our veterinary requirements are contracted out.  Having said that, your veterinary skills might help you if you were to go into any one of a variety of medical trades that we have.  They may not give you advanced placement, but you may find some of the training easier.  As others have said, talk to a recruiter.

Welcome to the site. You can also spend some time just looking around here and reading, and perhaps use the Search Function, to get a better understanding. The advice to see a recruiter is first-rate, though.

Once you know more, you can ask more detailed questions, if you haven't already found answers to them before you even think of them by reading older postings here.
