Questions...Things they assume we know

I have a couple of questions about things they never explain to us but assume we are supposed to know. I was told the next time I go in for weekend BMQ to bring my ground sheet? Can anyone post a picture of what it is or describe it because we got issued so much stuff and they never explained what everything is. Is it that camouflage blanket like thing? What is that? Or is it that huge nylon sheet with grommets and strings and can be folded in half and zipped up? What is that?

Another question, how do you attach your valise to your rucksack? I know your supposed to use straps but how? Where do they go through? Does anyone have any photos of the back of their rucksack with it attached?

Sorry for all the questions but I searched the whole forum and couldn't find any answers. I feel like I'm kind of out in the dark because they don't explain anything to us, just tell us to do it.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

If your doing BMQ, they should have shown you how to properly put your ruck together and where everythign is supposed to go in your ruck.

Your ground sheet should be stuffed into your valice along with your sleeping bags, bungi chords (if you have them) and your wash basin if your instructing staff want you to bring it.

The valice straps are the ones shown running bottom to top/top to bottom in the picture.  You thread them through the little slits in the bottom portion of your ruck, and then I have mine actually threaded underneath my back padding to keep them secure.

When attaching your straps, make sure you actually put them farther up the frame of the ruck so they are just slightly under the main ruck pouch, then out and through the front hooks on your ruck.  This will ensure that you keep your valice and air matress tight against the body of your ruck.

Valice and air matress attached to ruck.

The strap you see going horizontal is just the waste strap for the ruck sack, if you don't have that attacked make sure you get that on your ruck as well.

Thanks guys, your awesome!

Those pics will definitely help me. I really appreciate it!

Ugh the '82 pat frame..

With your valeece, your want to get it as compact as possible, the waist belt is pretty good at helping to keep it compact. When your wearing webbing, the waist belt is pretty much useless, so remove it off the frame, an wrap it around your valeece(horizantally), it also helps stop items from oozing out of the valeece too.

I was laughing my ass off for about 5 minutes before I scrolled down...I thought someone was pulling your leg.   This is what I thought a ground sheet was.

Do Reservists have to have a CADPAT ruck sack and veleece?   I was looking through a Military Magazine and the CADPAT rucks are $200+ !!!!   Do reservists need a CADPAT ruck, or can they use the olive green one?

You do not have to buy a ruck...you will be issued with one ( olive 1982 pattern).  The new CADPAT rucks are not out as of yet i beleive. Every one is in the same boat, except for those with a 1964 pattern.......Dont spend your money cuz you think you have to, you DON'T !!!!
