RCD vs. LdSH (RC)

Thanks everyone for taking the time to help me out!!  Every opinion was of value to me.  I'm still unsure, what I'm going to do, however I do have time, and I'm hoping everything will just fall in place (wishful thinking).  I'm seriously considering going the 12e route now.  However, all the regiments seem very appealing to me.  :-\  I guess time will tell.

Thanks again, and hopefully I will serve along side some of you in the near future.

The Royal Canadian Armoured Corps gets any smaller, you will, and we will all be in the same call sign...

Well then, now's the perfect time for me to jump in.  ;D

First some background: When I did my QL3 in Gagetown, I was arbitrarily selected for 12eRBC (I have an Alberta passport). Since 8CH ran the 3s they argued successfully that they should get the top student, so I became B Sqn 8CH until we re-badged to C/RCD. We did Germany twice/year for Fallex & gun camp. I eventually moved on, but went to Bosnia with LdSH (SFOR, roto 1). So I know something about the various Regts.

Now.....look at my profile. I'm an infantry officer. It's not too late Quag. While I have no idea what a MOC 21 is doing on North Bay (besides possibly helping out the Air Force gene pool)...it's not too late. Come over to the dark side. As was mentioned in TCBF's post above, you guys may end up in the same c/s. Even with the Arty taking our mortars, the Engineers, our pioneers, and LdSH, our TOW anti-armour.....all in order to salvage SOME employability.....there's always LOTS of work for the "poor bloody infantry."

Come on over. You know you want to  >:D

One could argue the LdSH(RC) did NOT take over your TOW, but your TOW moved over to take over the LdSH(RC).

;D

Journeyman....
and there's always the scruffy old engineer

No Geo, I don't think Quag has what it takes to be a thumperhead. We can use him though - - if only as bait in ambushes  ;)

hehe.... bait :)
just going out there, minding his own business
waiting and looking for trouble :)

There's no life like it!

Chimo!

Hello,  I start BMQ this April and I'm favouring LdSH(RC) over RCD's mainly because of it's location and I have lived in Red Deer (rough hour away from Edmonton) a couple years back; so I got some family and friends there as well.  I really want to be deployed to Afghanistan and was wondering if going RCD's would increase the chances?  I would also love to operate with the Leo's but I know that there aren't any in A'stan.  This dicision will be even more difficult once the time comes but I'm really stuck as of now.  I love Edmonton, I know I'll love my job, but when it comes down to it... I just want to soldier.  My Ultimate goal would to be operating a Leo in A'stan, but I'm sure it's safe to say, that aint goin to happen.  So would going RCD's increase my chances of being deployed within the next couple years? I can only imagine but I'm sure Coyotes are fun too  ???
Thanks! Tanks!

Buddy, by the time you finish training, the Leo's will be long gone.

They will ask you where you prefer going.....
then they will tell you where you are needed and are going to go.

One of those unfortunate facts of life.

If that's the case, send me to LdSH(RC)

Right, but would the likelihood of deployment differ between the two regiments?

"Buddy, by the time you finish training, the Leo's will be long gone.'

- Another five years at least.

not really.

Tankers are, after all, crewmen. They are trained in the Recce role - though not necessarily in Coyote hardware....

As the Operational Forces are put together, they will draw on all of the Bde's resources. There are enough deficiencies that, when TF106 went to Kandahar, members of 12RBC filled in ....

TCBF, you are being a pessimist!
