RCMP spied on Tommy Douglas, files reveal

I think they will win but a majority don't bet the farm on it. Harper certainly has a steady hand that being his own. It will work for some time but not a long time. I will agree there are a lot of free thinking mbrs of the CPC who in point of fact are PC's rather than that group of rather small minded Westerners who sadly highjack a great Canadian Party that I had in the past voted for.  Those free thinking people will soon free themselves from the yoke of "Reform" that will be the undoing of the party. I fully understand re the press and please do not think I am one who follows everything they say. I could have guessed you lived out West by your love of PET.

In any case it has been fun I truly wish you the very best. My thoughts are as I know yours are with the folks deployed who have given us the ability to have this exchange here in cyber space.

Merry Chrismas

Indeed...how proud I was of our CDS this morning to see him with the troops and not just behind the wire in Kandahar but out at a forward position.

Reviving necro-thread for this - we may see more info in the MSM down the road on this, thanks to a Federal Court of Canada decision:
.... After reviewing the file, the Court found that there was an insufficient evidentiary basis to justify confidentiality for most of the undisclosed documentation. The (office of the Minister of Canadian Heritage)’s approach was reasonable only for current operational interests, human sources and technical sources. As for the disclosure of information from “targets of a transitory nature” and for “incidental reporting” on T.C. Douglas, the approach followed was inconsistent and unreasonable. Furthermore, the Respondent cannot keep confidential the identity of RCMP Officers and their opinions concerning T.C. Douglas ....  the Court orders (Library and Archives Canada) to indicate, within thirty days of the decision, whether the institution has more information about T.C. Douglas .... The file is to be reviewed anew by the (office of the Minister of Canadian Heritage) in order to reflect the reasons issued and the interests highlighted by the Court ....

One has to bear in mind that the CCF advocated the overthrow of the capitalist system and essentially advocated a system beyond what most people consider scocialist.  A read of the Regina Manifesto pretty much places Douglas and the CCF ideologically with the Communists.

I think he scared a lot of people for legitimate reasons.
