RCR Cemeteries of the Great War

I have added a map utility to my website information on the casualties of the First World War.  This interactive map will allow users to see where the cemeteries are located that include soldiers of the Regiment, and each cemetery marker links back to the information page I have compiled on it.

Great War Cemeteries of The RCR

If anyone is traveling to any of these cemeteries I would greatly appreciate photos of one or more of the RCR gravestones.

The RCR in the Great War – The Lost Cemeteries

In my efforts to identify and locate the cemeteries holding Great War casualties of The RCR, I have been left with two “lost” cemeteries.  While the Commonwealth War Graves Commission gives directions to many of the cemeteries in Europe (often sadly dated directions at that), the cemeteries in Canada have no such finding aides.

I have been so far unable to positively locate through internet searches the following cemeteries:

Lower Wood Harbour (Greenwood) Cemetery, Nova Scotia, Canada
Seymour (Mount Pleasant) Cemetery, Ontario, Canada

Any assistance to confirm the locations of these cemeteries would be welcome.

Thank you.

Michael

That's a good start for the Seymour location, the problem is the map imagery in Google maps doesn't have the resolution to verify the cemetery from hacking the GPS coordinates to Google's location system.  That's why I've been hoping someone can actually provide directions or a locality map for verification.

Similarly, with Lower Woods Harbour, I'm looking for someone who can verify the info based on personal knowledge because the photo image isn't clear enough in that area.

If these are war graves, the Canadian Agency of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission is responsible for their inspection and maintenance.
They must know the location, because their people must visit them from time to time. Just as the CWGC would do in Europe, or any other part of the world.
Again, I am assuming these are in fact war graves, and not veterans.

Yes, they are war graves.  But the CWGC does not have on line detailed directions to cemeteries in Canada.

For example, if you go to my link for Lower Wood Harbour (Greenwood) Cemetery, Nova Scotia, Canada, you will see the listed soldier with a link to his entry at the Canadian Virtual War Memorial.

The only provided Cemetery details for Pte Nickerson is as follows:

Cemetery:
LOWER WOOD HARBOUR (GREENWOOD) CEMETERY
Nova Scotia,Canada

Grave Reference: G. 98.

This is the link to the CWGC page for that cemetery:

Michael,

The location of the Mount Pleasant Cemetery looks like a small detour to make on my next drive to Ottawa via Highway 7.

How many names are you looking to check?  Or do you just want an accurate location of the cemetery?

Dan.

Dan,

my first request would be to verify the location of the cemetery.  A photo of the grave to add to my page would be great if at all possible.

There's just the one RCR soldier buried there:

455666 Pte. Samuel Martin FREDERICK

Thanks

Mike
