To Dave Willard and Bob McGonigal:
Big parades we always something I loved as well. I was in Wainwright for an
RV exercise in ā€˜85. If memory serves me right, that was the last of the big
RVs. We had a Division parade, I think we buried a time capsule as well but
Iā€˜m getting old now and my memory is not quite up to par. haha
Anyway I was attached to A sqn the LdSh RC and 1 Brigade was on the right
flank, so we led off. I still remember the long march around Centurian
Field. Dust rising as we marched on that bald assed chunk of prairie. We
passed the reviewing stand and just kept going back to the vehicle park. We
mounted up on the cougars and me in my husky and headed back to the bivouac
area. We were not really taking our time but I can still remember that the
troops of 5 Brigade were still going past the reviewing stand as we drove
down the road. There were 10,000 soldiers on parade that day! A record for
me and I am sure it was a record for most of the others that were there.
I have been on lots of parades in my career, but that one was the most
memorable.
