Your family is your family - you have to take care of them.  I wouldn't worry about being recoursed - if you are, c'est le vie - it happens.

Being recoursed for reasons such as yours is no cause for shame - it's a cause for pride.  I know that it'll be painful to do all over again - but you'll be able to stand proud as one who has taken care of his obligations - no matter how onerous.

Good luck to you - and stand tall.

Well put, Roy.

Recoursing is a decision the crse standards cell will ultimately have to make, it'll be based on a number of factors, such as which PO/EOs you've missed, instructor time to make the subjects up, etc.

Family should be coming first for you, at this point, anyway.  As Mr. Harding said, there's no shame in it.

I you talk to your course staff and explain the situation you may find that some of them may be willing to stay late or come in during the week to help you catch up, the reasons you stated for missing training are in my opinion very acceptable and I would be willing to stick around late etc...

thanks you guys, i was thinking the same thing, because its not like I'm out partying while my buds are out there, there no where i would rather be then with my buds in dundurn...
as for the weekends i missed one was the weapons drill and cleaning the c7 etc. and this one was the field, gas hut and we had our basic military exam this weekend too
i feel bad because my course mates are out there with out me i let my fire team partner know why i wasn't going to be out just so no one thought i was trying to pull a fast one.

I didn't think you were "pulling a fast one".  You've got to take of your family - you appear to be doing so.  Don't worry about your buddies - they'll be fine, and will think much more of you if you fulfill your familial obligations.

I'm not in Standards, and can't say whether you'll be re-coursed or not.  However, given what you've missed, I think you're going to be.

Make the most of it - take the time to set things up for your Mom - arrange a Home Care Assistant, or whatever it is that she needs.  No one will think less of you for taking care of your Mom.

Take care of yourself, mckee19, and that includes taking care of your family.

Roy

Roy, i wasn't saying you thought i was pulling a fast one, i told my fire team partner so he could tell the boys why i wasn't there so they didn't think that.

thanks for your advice though, it made me feel better about potentially being re coursed
i have made up all the time for the first weekend i missed with all the c7 stuff, but i can see how this weekend is going to be pretty hard for someone to stay late and help me learn it because its more that you have to go through it and not so much be taught it.
my course staff are very reasonable people so i guess we will just have to wait and see what happens.

thanks for the advice

PM inbound - FWIW out here on the public board - I think you're one HELL of a fine fella'.

Roy

thanks Roy you sound like a pretty good guy yourself, i would go to battle with you any day

im still pretty new to the site so im still a little lost on the abbreviations like PM inbound and FWIW....im thinking FWIW means  for what its worth but im still foggy on PM haha

being recoursed would probably be the end of my reserve career though as my plan was to go reg once i finish up a bit of high school i got left.

Sorry - I just assume that "young 'uns" like yourself understand the various "MSN abbreviations" - which are contra indicated by the forum rules - and I shouldn't use them.

FWIW - you're right - it means "for what it's worth"

PM - "personal message", or "personal mail".  You've received this by the time you've read this particular post.

You've given me a good "head shake" regarding "MSN language" - it's against the Board Rules, and I won't use it again.

According to the BMQ TP.

MISSED TRAINING
12. As a general rule, some trainees will be recoursed under the following circumstances, without resorting to the PRB :
a. absence of a total of 20 X 40 min instructional periods (including field training); or
b. any medical reason that may result in the trainee to cease training.

Note: Administration, assessment, effective remedial training and rewrite periods will not be taken into account when calculating the absences.

I hope this helps.

I know the course I taught last spring we had some folks miss the field ex...so they were loaded on the next course for just the field part. Might you know the other course was only a few days apart.

TN2IC like the TP says, As a general rule, some trainees will be recoursed under the following circumstances, without resorting to the PRB .

Standards has the ultimate say on what happens.

i talked to some of the course staff today and i told them what was going on...they said they would do everything they could not to make me recourse but they said sometimes there is nothing they can do. he told me 90% of people in this situation are re coursed but he understood what was going on with me and said that on those grounds he will try and recommend that I'm not re coursed and just retaught
i will learn what is going to happen on tuesday night when we have a meeting but im just prepared there going to make me recourse. im thinking of just applying for reg force instead of taking the course over again.

Hey McKee, I'd recommend talking to Lt. ______ tonight, remember to salute, also you missed some good stuff last weekend, but I think you might be able to continue without the gas hut, there was someone from 41 brigade who joined our gas hut 'experience' because he had missed it for medical reasons on his BMQ.
You better come tonight.

i wish i was there, i was jacked to do that stuff, but i had other things to take care of.
im getting recoursed ill be doing my BMQ in june but ill be back with the boys for SQ and BIQ this summer
it wasnt the gas hut it was just the whole field ex experience  they cant re teach plus this is my second weekend missed so they said its only gonna hurt me in the long run with missing too much training
mCpl. N*****s told me that being recoursed for these reasons wont be a blemish on my record so im happy about that im just mad that i have to do most of it over again without the guys

You're a good man, mckee19.

There'll be other "guys" to meet on your course in June - and (says my crystal ball), given the maturity you've shown throughout this particular episode of your life, you'll quickly catch up to (and perhaps) surpass your current course mates within the Regimental hierarchy.

Ya' done good, mkee19 - I'm proud to know there are still up and coming Canadian citizens of your calibre.

Take care of yourself (and your family).

Roy

No more dipping, listen during class, don't be a 'certain loud-mouthed 1 section person' when you meet your new course mates and you can somewhat march and they can't. Also show up on parade nights one of these days, you missed a sweet night yesterday.

When you show up on a Tuesday Night I will tell you. You are about one step away from losing your job. :-\
