So I am planning on enlisting in the reserves in September with the Royal Montreal Regiment but I will be in Vancouver until late August. Does anyone know a way I can at least start the process so I can hit the ground running when I go back East? I've tried contacting the Seaforth Highlanders here in Vancouver a number of times to ask questions and they haven't responded. Basically I'd like to get into training as soon as I get back to Montreal. Any advice?

You will need to contact the reserve unit that you are interested in joining to inquire as to occupations and positions available. In the mean time you can start the process of joining online at forces.ca.  This will not guarantee you a  place with the unit as they are controlled locally a the unit itself, although the processing of your application is handled by the recruiting centre. If you apply online a file will be opened for you when all of your paperwork has been submitted it is then forwarded to the local recruiting centre that you will be dealing with in person. You may be surprised just how long it can take just for the paperwork to be ready for processing. Eventually you will need something from the reserve unit stating that you have been offered a position with them.

You can begin your application online at Forces.ca, but you will eventually have to obtain a Statement of Understanding from the reserve unit that you would like to apply to. Your best bet is to get in contact with the reserve unit first to ensure that there are vacancies and, if so, begin your application process.

There is no guarantee that you will be enrolled come September. Recruiting does take a long time, and there are several steps to it.
