Releases after a Deployment

Ever since I joined the Army, and even in all those years before, there have been Releases after a Deployment.  I often thought that the main reason was that the Deployment was so bad that guys just didn't want to stay in anymore.  But with experience and lots of time, I soon realized that this was not necessarily the case.  Then, as now, the Young Soldier had a good head on his shoulders and knew that if the Army, Navy, or Air Force wasn't his calling, he should get out.  Many, with the opportunity to do a Deployment before applying for a Release, realized that there was a bit of extra cash involved and it would be wise to have a solvent Bank Account if they were to get out.  Of course the wise choice was to put off their Release application until after a Deployment, so that they could build up a relatively safe Bank Account for their departure.  This being the case, it is normal to see a number of Releases after a Deployment.

Sometimes the more interesting fact is the number who march back in through the Front Gate in a years time.

Well, the grass is always greener...................  ::)

Alot of that is people make plans for what they want to do on civvy street, and when they get there after a stint in the Army, they realize that maybe they never should have left in the first place. Where else can you after just 4 years, be making the money a Corporal makes in the Army? Where else can you find the job security the military offers? Where else can you find the benefits coverage the military offers? Where else can you find the retirement package the military offers? If you apply yourself and have a desire to advance and retire at the highest rank you can attain, this job can be so rewarding and there's a golden prize awaiting at the end.  I find that civvies don't make sense and for that reason alone, I could never get out of the Army. The way they operate is baffling. There's no discipline and order. I guess I've just gotten accustomed to and like the fact that military folk wake up in the morning and shave, keep a short haircut and keep our uniform appearance in impeccable condition. There's a purpose to what we do - WO Bennett is one of the biggest sticklers for details because if you glaze over the small details and write them off as no big deal, then when it counts (as it does on ops) your going to skip small details and it could be costly. Civvies don't get this. Anyhow, to anyone thinking of getting out, I say think long and hard about it - remember your last civvy job and decide if thats what you REALLY want. If civvy street is your calling, good luck to you and I like to hear about guys I served with prosper out there, but I have to say, I also enjoy seeing good guys come back to the fold.  ;)

Thats one way to get the "golden prize awaiting at the end"....sure you didnt mean white and creamy!

Agree with your other points we do make a living doing what you like.

Should we start a new tread "how great my boss is?" or "PLQ coming up? how do I get on"

Cheers >:D ;D

Nonsense!

My WO taught Jesus to walk on water, and when he is not earning a "mastered" in every bubble, develops his troops to their fullest potential and provides a great working environment!

PS, If you happen to read this, I want to go on MFP!!  ;)

Don't knock "believing" in your Sgt.....

Many, many moons ago I went to Toronto (shudder) for a friends wedding. We all wore our dress uniforms, and had a ball. Sometime in the wee hours of the morning I was leaving town, on my motorcycle, drunk as a skunk. (for the PC crowd, yes, I was wrong- I plead being a typical stupid young male).

I was pulled over by the Cops on Younge street (which was packed) and asked if I had a helmet. I did, of course, strapped to the back of the bike, and said so. I was asked why I wasn't wearing my helmet, and I responded that as I was in uniform, I had to be properly dressed- and being Police Officers, they should know that. They then asked me what would hapen to me if I dropped the bike. I responded with "My Sgt told me that as long as I was wearing my black beret, I wouldn't get cold in the winter, wet in the rain, and bullets wouldn't hurt". They looked a litle askance, and chuckled. Being young, drunk, and stupid I thought they were disrespecting my Sgt, and pointed this out to the Cops, asking them if they were calling my Sgt a liar, and advancing forward with fists ready. They quickly retreated, wished me a good day, and let me go.....still with no helmet.

My Sgt came in pretty handy that night :)

Just thought that I would drop my two cents into this one . I hope that if there are any CF guys thinking of getting out early that they would listen to this . I have been a civy most of my life I only a brief stint as an army reservist less than a year about ten months . After Passing basic I wasn't sure if I wanted to be infantry the rest of my life.Let me tell you that was about ten years ago and even though now I have a decent  job that I am happy with I have never found anything that compared to my experience as an army reservist .  Also working as a civy you will rarely get the same money as you did in the CF that's more for the full time people its not impossible but difficult to do . If I where you guys I would suggest staying in the CF as long as you can and enjoy every moment cause when its gone you will miss  it every day. At least that has been my experience but that just my experience .
