Requisite skills?

I'm very interested in joining the Army, but I am not sure if my skills are what the Army's looking for because the skills that I do have aren't technical in nature.
However, I do have 2 Master's degrees in Philosophy and Linguistics and 10 years of teaching experience. Does anyone think that these skills would be of interest to the Army?

Why yes, yes they would. Keep in mind that not everyone can come into the Forces off the street with prior experience. Our job is the controlled application of violence. There's not many bloody other places in Canada where you can learn that. Naturally, if you're coming in as, say, a vehicle tech, some prior experience as a mechanic would be helpful, but not all trades map easily to civilian jobs, and even for those that do, it will simply make someone a more competitive candidate as compared to others applying.

The Canadian Armed Forces has a very good training system. We've determined exactly what it is that we expect you to know in order to be able to be of use, and we teach you those things.

So, your best next step would be to visit a recruiting centre to discuss which of the many trades available might most be of interest to you.

I have a better suggestion - go to the Forces.ca website and figure out for yourself which trade(s) interest you ... THEN come to the Recruiting Centre to see us and find out if those trades are available (here's a hint - the 'typical' trades someone with your background would be interested in are currently not available - Intelligence Officer, Personnel Selection Officer, Public Affairs Officer)
