Hi All,

I am new to this site and to the military. I will be sworn in soon and I wanted to know what to expect.

I am going into the reserves as an officer. Into logisitcs - my vision is crap (V4). Is there anybody here from the Montreal/Quebec area who has done the BMQ/BMOQ?

Anybody here with the RMR or the 712ieme Comms Sq?

I would like any advice / comments you can give me!

Thanks a lot!

Gabriel

Well,

I wanted to know if and when you did / or are doing your training? Are you an officer or NCM?

Do you like the RMR? Do you know anything about the 712ieme Comms?

I‘m just starved for any information I can get. It‘s hard to find anything out on my end...

I am, apparently, joining the 712ieme as a LOG officer.

ANy information you could give me would be great!

Thanks
Gabriel

Mr. Granatstein (get used to being called this)

Just to point out -- I think you are using "OC" to refer to "Officer Cadet". The correct abbreviation is "OCdt".

"OC" is the abbreviation for "Officer Commanding", i.e. a Company Commander. You will learn all of this once you join, but it‘s good to know ahead of time so that you don‘t get jacked up for giving yourself a promotion. ;)

Murph,

Thank you! As you can see, I have demoted myself. It felt good at the top... While it lasted...

I do have a lot to learn.

Any advice?

Gabriel

OCdt Granatstein,

***I wanted to know if and when you did / or are doing your training? Are you an officer or NCM?***

We do our training mostly in Valcartier and Farnham, but sometime we go to the US and even the UK to train with our allied regiment (done once or twice a year). Usually we train every 2 weekends plus 1 or 2 tuesday night a month.

***Do you like the RMR? Do you know anything about the 712ieme Comms?***

We share the same building with the 712. In the 712, youll have to do alot of technical work because it is a comms squadron. In the rmr we domore of the field work and weapon handling.

**I would like any advice / comments you can give me!**

If you like something that can be useful to your civvie job, you should go to 712. But if you like something challenging and physical, you should go RMR. But thats only my advide, there are alot of people with alot of experience in this forum who can tell you alot of stuff, just sit around and listen.

Pugil,

when did 712 move in with you guys? I seem to recall back in the day (early ‘80s) that they had their own armoury.

Sarsteve,
I think it was 5 or 6 years ago. But even if we share the same building, it is pretty much own by the rmr, 712 is pretty much a background figure.
