Hi,
I'm trying to find out more information about a relative. He's called Richard Phillips and was in the Canadian First Army. He served in Biggin Hill in Kent, England, in 1942-43 and was posted to Anzio Beachhead, Italy in 1944. He was born in approximately 1918-20.
I haven't got any more information at the moment, please let me know if you know anything.

Hi Samm
You can get his records from here: http://www.collectionscanada.ca/genealogy/022-909.007-e.html This will give you his service records.
It will take at lest 3 months to get them. and if you want his full records it will take a lot longer.
If he has not been died for 20 years.
You will need some sort of proof of his death.
Proof of Death: A copy of a death certificate, newspaper obituary, funeral notice or photograph of the gravestone.
Then if you knew if and which legion he was a member of you could go down there and speak to anyone on the B.S. table ( all legions have one ) and I'm sure if he was a regular member someone will remember him.
If you new what school he went to he's name should be on the wall with he service #. also he's grave might have it as well.
If i can help in any further way Email me at [email protected]
Hope this helps!

Thanks for your help, unfortunately I'm from the UK so unable to find out about stuff over in Canada.  Mum got some records by contacting the genealogy department but they were very limited so this is how we knew what age he died but we don't know anything further as they didn't offer any more information.  I was hoping maybe that someone had some further information on him here.
What's a B.S. table?

Hi Samm
I don't know if this is the man your looking for:
The age is not right! He would hae been born 1912.
The B.S. table is were all the old members sit in the legion. It called Bull S***
Table.

Hi Samm
You can request a full set of records from http://www.collectionscanada.ca/genealogy/022-909.007-e.html
It should have 100 + pages. It will take 6 months to get. That should give you some more info. The genealogy package only have maybe 15 to 20 pages.

Thanks for posting about the other Richard Phillips but Mum got the details that he lived until age 62 and died in the 80's, he was around 24 in 1941-44 approximately so it wasn't him.  Thanks for trying though, I found that one earlier today.

Thanks for the information, unfortunately there's a major flaw in the plan as we don't have any proof of death as stated on the application form for information.  Unless they'll take a copy of the letter my mother received from the Red Cross a few years back now.

I did notice that a 'Sharon Watson' had posted about a Nicholas Richard Phillips on the old posts here, the description fits that of the Richard Phillips that I'm looking for, although she posted that in 1999 and the email is no longer valid.

Hi Samm
If you look there is no restrictions on access to information relating to an individual who has been deceased for more than 20 years. Proof of death is required. So if my math is good he died around 1980 to 1982 which is 24to 26 years ago.
So all you need is that piece of paper from the red cross a picture of his grave or a news paper clipping, of his death.
If you know were his is buried someone will go and take a picture for you and the local library will have some people who will look up any death notices in the local paper. If you know what cemetery he is buried they will send you proof as well.

Try to get a hold of these guys. The man who runs this' name is Steve Douglas and he has people all over the world that take pictures of Canadian soldiers grave stones for thier families.

Thanks for the information, Mum's going to dig out her files on Monday and have a look at how much more information is contained in the Red Cross sheet of paper and I'll see where I can go from there.  I'm not sure it contained details of where his grave was though.

Maple Leaf Legacy only photographs official war graves (c. 1947 at the latest for WW II IIRC).  The grave of Mr Phillips is a veteran's grave, so is outside their scope.

Thanks for letting me know.  Unfortunately my Mum has been unable to locate my Grandfathers service number, so I'm still searching in vain here, in the hope that someone may have heard of him.

Thanks
Samm

I've posted a photo of him on my blog:

Thanks
