Mr Sheardown at great risk to himself and his wife, concealed Americans that had escaped the US embassy in Tehran in 1979. For that act he became a Member of the Order of Canada. RIP Mr Sheardown.

"It would have been selfish for us not to do so," Zena Sheardown told The Associated Press from her current home in Ottawa, Ontario. "There weren't many places to hide in Iran, we had the room, they needed our help and it was just not in John's nature to refuse help to anyone."

RIP to a true hero.

Mods, could this be moved to the 'Thoughts and Prayers' board?

I was unaware of his 20-years in the RCAF.  The linked article's description of his trying to bring in a crippled Lancaster bomber is the stuff of legend all on its own.
