The question that begs to be asked is "where do you wnat to be in five to ten years?". If your body does not sustain any serious injuries during your first 5 years in the FFL then you may want to re-evaluate if you want to re-up for another stint remember that you are not classified as a French citizen until you retire after 20 years in until you retire. The work doesn‘t change much and you are the expendable troops that France throws at what ever is bothering them at the time. Chad is a very boring training area unless you really like desert environments.

On the other hand, the Royal Marines have a vast array of training areas, a multitude of trades available yes Virginia, there is life outside the Infantry and a pension system, while not the best in the world, that is transferable to other former commonwealth countries. I‘m probably looking further down the road than you are right now but if you survive the rigors of training, operations and the general stupidity of the commanders directing you, you may want to see what each of the choices have to offer you when it‘s all over but the crying.

What ever choice you make, make it knowing that this is the most comfortable country in the world and is not the point from which you should make your decision. Go! Live! Explore! Be!

All the Best
