Not good at all...  They have more control over Natural Gas than OPEC has over oil...  If they get Algeria on board they basically have control of Europe's entire supply, just as Europe is converting to natural gas for power.

If natural gas is what you want, there is a pretty good supply in North America, which can be augmented by converting coal to Syngas. Driving the price of natural gas into the ground will do wonders for us, and prevent Iran and Russia from doing too much mischief.

WRT oil, a similar potential exsists if reports about the Bakken formation are true. American politics seems to be the real sticking point, perhaps the exploitation of these resources might have to wait until 2012. American readers of this forum might want to blog, email, write to newspapers/congressmen and senators on an hourly basis 24/7 if they want to get started sooner.

While "Drill baby drill" may be a catchy slogan it has very little to do with reality.  The natural gas reserves of North America, at least according to this list, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_natural_gas_proven_reserves , seem to add about to about 4% of the world totals while Russia, Iran and Quatar have about two thirds...
