Former Canadian snowboarding champ, Ryan Wedding, turned International drug dealer has been arrested and is now in US custody.

Canada arrested a whole bunch of his associates lately (in the last year). Contrary to popular belief and common place, there is no honour amongst thieves. Somebody blabbed to get a good deal on plea bargain.
“How would you like to be tried and sentenced and serve your sentence in Canada? Cause you know, the Americans want to extradite you.”

According to reports, he was in contact with US authorities. Perhaps there is some quid pro quo to be announced, like maybe taking the death penalty off the table.

Or he just got too hot to keep protecting.....wherein the death penalty was definitely on the table.

I went to high school with this guy, when he was 17 he had a Kawasaki ninja and a slammed dodge ram dually with hydraulics. Might have watched Scarface a few too many times.
No kidding? What was he like back then? Was the slide into crime surprising or one of those “yeah I can see that” things?

Pretty privileged up-bringing, pretty difficult to go to the Olympics for downhill snowboarding without being wealthy. Decent enough guy and from a nice family, from what I could see. Went to his house a few times in late 90’s. Drug dealing- not surprised but that doesn’t say much since in suburban Vancouver it was very common. Being on an FBI most wanted list and being compared to Pablo Escobar- shocked.

I heard an interview of someone who said he started sliding downhill (no pun intended) after pretty much washing out at the Olympics. He finished 24th.

Former Olympic snowboarder Ross Rebagliati might have wished he re-phrased part of his interview with CTV when he says about 1:50 that he sort of understands to path Wedding took because of the lack of funding for Olympic athletes.
