Schedule of CAP course

Greetings,

Plans are for me to be off on my CAP course next summer.

I am involved in the wedding of a close friend, which was originally scheduled to be in late August 2006.  He has recently advised me that it will now be on 30 June of 2006.

I am afraid I likely know the answer to this question...but what is the trg schedule like?  Would there be even a hope of a chance in me taking a day or two of leave over a weekend (in particular the weekend of Canada Day) to fly out to the wedding?

I suppose I should start telling him now that he needs to convince his bride to be that my schedule is more important than her'S  ;-)

This summer we got the weekend before Canada Day weekend as a long weekend, I also know personally of two individuals who took weekend leave to attend weddings.  What you need to do is let your staff know as early as possible of your request - and of course make sure your platoon works hard so you don't lose your weekend.

This past summer they were pretty liberal with leave - we received passes virtually every weekend except the first two on my course, though other platoons weren't always so lucky.

Sorry if this is rude...but how come you're a full Lt and haven't done CAP yet?

I don't know what his particular situation is, but it can happen.  I've seen a few Lts on CAP - from the Air Force mostly, though... or other OT's.  In the infantry I'm not sure how that would come about.

As Redeye said, I have just completed an OT.  Ideally, I think I would have preferred relinquishing to 2Lt, but Lt is what was decided.  Unfortunately it all happened just a bit too late to get on CAP before next summer.

There was a winter course this year from Feb - Apr time frame.  Contact the infantry school for course dates coming up.  If there is a course and your not involved with school or other training, ask to get on the early course and get on with your career earlier.

where are you coming from?  what part of the reserves were you in before your CT?  i am going through a CT myself, and i was just curious.

As an OT, I'm assuming you'll be aval to start crse earlier than later.  You'll be happy to know that currently we are staggering the CAP crse start dates for next summer.  There will be 1-4 serials commencing on 01 May of next year.  If you can get loaded on one of these serials you shouldn't have any trouble getting 30 Jun off.  However, if you're on one of the serials starting on 29 May there is a good chance you'll be in the field that wknd.  Regardless, the actually timetable with this fidelity won't be approved until likely the Mar timeframe. Hope this helps.

Alex

Sorry wmcyow, I don't want to hijack your thread but I have a question for Ruff.

Since you seem to know what's going on with the upcoming CAP crse's, do you know when and how many serials of the Infantry Reserve Platoon Commanders crse are being offered next summer (2006)?

My sources tell me that there will be as many as 16 serials of CAP throughout the year of 06...

just wanted to add that to see if anyone can confirm or deny this...I also hear that in order to accomodate so many serials there will be a sort of "tent city" in the training area...anyone else hear that too?
