My father served overseas with the SD&G Highlanders during WWII. He has recently passed away. I would like to display his services medals with his beret. I have a hat badge but cannot find the beret. I do remember it had a tartan or coloured band on it & I think tails of some type. I have visited the SDGH website & had my e-mails to all their contact list returned. Is there anyone who can help me with this?
Thank You

mollyb,
As your father served in a highland unit and from your description of it, I think the headdress you are trying to describe is called a glengarry. It‘s worn with the DEUs of most Scottish regiments. I‘ve seen a few used ones at surplus stores but I‘m sure any Scottish unit‘s kit shop could get one for you.

Thank you for your reply, gate_guard. I will try surplus shops & kit shops aswell. What are DEU‘s?

I'm with an SD&G Highlanders cadet unit based out of Hawkesbury ON. If there is anything we can do to help, we would love to help our fellow commerades and their families.

DEU's is the Dress Uniform (for us it's the kilts)
