Well it isn’t the M7, it’s still the XM-7.
They have been issuing the last of the initial contract testing batch to the ARNG, so I would expect it just to sail off into the sunset and a bunch of new M4 projects kick off.
SOCOM seems intent on running a CAR (combat assault rifle) program with multiple uppers on a common lower based on the Navy SMU’s MCAR program.
My guess is would be that the larger services will adopt a slightly less frills version of that as the M4A2 or something with one upper option.
But again I don’t call it Big Stupid Army for nothing, so there is always a chance that defeat may be snatched from the jaws of victory.
