So I've been telling my story to alot of people and a few of the friends who I have that are/were enlisted keep giving me these stories about how you'll make Corporal after BMQ because of the semi-skilled entry.  Any truth to this?  I know the situation is different for each person, I'm just wondering if anyone has had this happen or not?  I'm going in on the 4th for BMQ, Reg, as a Semi-Skilled Medtech because I have my AEMCA.  Anyone shed a wee bit of light on these fables?

What did the recruiting center tell you ?

Did you ask them ?

?

"You have been accepted as a Semi-Skilled Med Tech and your education is to be evaluated in depth at a later date..."

You ain't got no skills.  ;D

What ever anyone is telling you now will be crushed quickly upon posting to your unit after your QL3 course is complete. You perhaps will not have to complete portions of your QL 3 course, but I don't see you getting Cpls early without any pervious service.

And as far as AEMCA, that doesnt qualify you to be a Cpl Med Tech, it just makes you a very employable Pte in the Reg F. You my however be given entry to a higher pay level of Pte (Pte Trained) instead of working your way up the incentives for 4 yrs.

Reserves...I can't comment on.

That's what I figured.  I was told that I more than likely won't have to do the second portion and I was started a bit higher on the pay grade.  I argued with these guys that nothing was mentioned about becoming a Corporal but they're stubborn.  Just thought I'd get some opinions from here.  Thanks A.M.

Reserve side is the same as Reg. All one standard now. PCP is just one of the three parts of the QL3.

probably not. The time at the school has an emegency care portion and a clinical portion.

Just to make you feel oh so much better, I had someone working for me that went through the same thing, was told they'd be advanced promoted to Cpl and is in fact still a private - they got a little higher up on the pay scale, but it seems there was apparently a problem as to the offer of enrollment - what was said cannot be corroborated with the message.  As I'm sure you'll hear alot, keep copies of everything, including your enrollment message - it may help you out later.

See you in Boredon, oops, Borden.

I am not a Medic but I happen to be an instant Corporal. During the recruiting process I signed on as being semi skilled and received a 10K signing bonus.  The key to all this is to have everything documented and signed and have a copy for yourself.  All this should be done before you "Officially" sign the dotted line that you commit yourself to the CF. Don't trust the recruiting center to sign on to be a CF member and that everything will be fixed up while you are on BMQ.

During BMQ I was a Pte and during the BMQ Grad I was promoted to Cpl and then my Cpl pay was retroactive for those 10 weeks.

So a quick update:  after being sworn in today, I was told that all matters concerning rank and equivalencies will be covered by the MA at Borden, including whether I'll be completing the full portion of the QL3's.  Makes a little more sense now.

I hope someone reads this topic again.  Since these seems to be the place for this question I don't want to start a new thread unless needed.
I have just applied, done my medical CFAT interview etc.  Everything is in good order and I am just waiting for an offer.  I have applied to join as med tech.  I am currently a paramedic in new brunswick (a Primary Care Paramedic).  I can't get no answer from the local recruiting center on what to expect for training or higher pay scale or rank, if any.  hopefully some of you can help!

I am a paramedic, have been working as one for 6 months now.  I have my PCP.  PLUS..... Advanced Cardiac Life support, pre hospital trauma life support, pediatric advanced life support, whmis, etc etc.  and I am a certified Canadian Injury Prevention Specialist.

can anyone give me an idea of what i'm in for as far as additional training?

thanks so much

All depends on what they (that is the people in Ottawa) decide to offer you upon enrollment.  Likely you'll end up having to do a bit of time at the School doing field ops stuff and maybe some clinical assessment stuff (ie - physical exams that are routinely NOT performed by ambulance paramedics).  As most of us here have no magic crystal ball (me least of all), I'd say that as my best educated guess.

Good Luck.

If you are on your way to BMQ you should already be familiar with the terms of your offer.  If you don't understand, ask your recruiter and if you are not clear at that time ask to speak to your recruiters boss.  These details should be ironed out before an offer is accepted.  If you are unsure ask.
