KANDAHAR, Afghanistan -- The owner of the Ottawa Senators is delivering gifts including $50,000 worth of hockey equipment to Canadian troops in Afghanistan.

Eugene Melnyk is visiting the NATO base in Kandahar.

Melnyk stepped off of a C130 Hercules transport aircraft wearing body armour and carrying an army helmet.

The troops _ for whom ball hockey is a major pastime _ are getting new goalie equipment, hockey sticks, inline skates, balls and NHL and Team Canada jerseys.

The billionaire businessman is also delivering 2,500 Tim Hortons gift certificates.

Thank You Mr. Melnyk :salute:

Excellent!  The guy's here will appreciate this for sure.  That's the way to support the troops.  Thank you Mr Melnyk. +1

A classy move by a classy man from a classy organization.  Despite being an hour and a half away from CFB Petawawa, the Ottawa Senators organization has been very good to the soldiers from 2 Brigade.  Hats off to Mr. Melnyk & the entire Senators organization.

The play-offs beckon;

GO SENS GO!

Good....I was looking for a reason to stop cheering for the wretched Leaf's.....

Seems to be a good reason  ;D

Sorry, we'd send stuff from Toronto but we blew all the money the Teachers Fund would let the Leafs spend on Brian McCabe's contract.
