dudes, I‘m 16 and wanna work full time in the army for a long while.
Call it personal rehab..
I heard they draft in Jan and Sep. Is this true?
If so, can you physically live and work on campus for years on end?
Hlep me n00b plz. :sniper:

By campus, you mean base. And yes, i believe you can. I know that once you are in your trade training at a certain base, you are allowed to live on it. Once you get assigned to another base, you can live on or off.

I‘m not sure for Infantry personel though.

Whata are the living conditions like on base? Specifically the rooms. Are they like most college dorm rooms? where you have a roommate which you share a kitchen and bathroom with and you have a private bedroom. Is it just you in an apartment type room? Or is it like you sometimes see in movies?, a big long room with bunks on each side.

It depends on the base, but I think most shacks are 4 people to a room or somethin close to it. You don‘t have a kitchen in shacks, that‘s what the mess hall is for. The bathroom is usually one per hallway or something of the sort. I don‘t know of any bases that have shacks like that on full metal jacket...

I didn‘t think any of them would be like that but just makin‘ sure. Thanks for the info.

The only time you‘ll have living conditions like that is on course. My BMQ/SQ was like that (Full Metal Jacket style shacks.)

But drill instructors are the same :p

Where do the regs draw their instructors for basic training courses anyway? Are they just temporarily drawn from units?

In most schools, instructors are permanently posted to the school. They do use augmentees during "peak" periods, including reservists in some cases.
Regarding the original question: Yes, you can live your whole life on base. You will be charged for rations and quarters, the money will be taken directly off your pay. When in junior ranks, your home will be called "The shacks", then if you become a SNCO, you will live in the "House of broken dreams" (cause that‘s where guys end up after a divorce...)
Usually, after being posted to an operational unit, you get your own room with shared bathroom. The rooms are spacious enough for one person, and are wired for telephone and cable.
Infantry personnel live in hootchies their whole career, out in the training area, with one weekend off a month to go shopping at Canadian Tire.
This last part is not true, I just wanted to illustrate that jutes just missed a good opportunity to NOT POST !!!

No, officers live in five-star hotels that the army leases with gold taps, room service and those automatic shoe buffers on every floor. So THAT‘S where the annual defence budget goes. :p
