Good day,
Thought I would share my story seeing how others have. I have wanted to join the Canadian Forces every since I was in grade 9, that was the first time I met with a recruiter at a job fair held by our school. The moment I met the recruiter, I was drawn in, I thus went home did some research, and from that day on, decided that I would join the Canadian Forces when I turned 17. I visited my local CFRC numerous times during highschool till the day I was eligible to join, however could not since my parents objected to the idea of me joining the Forces. Since I come from a Muslim family, my family bodily objected to the idea which pretty much heeded my determination of joining the Forces (even now, threatening to kick me out). I was born and raised in this country and thus I feel that it is not only a duty, but a great sense of honour to serve under the flag. At age of 17 I went to the CFRC to apply however couldn't since I needed parental consent. However, I was able to convice my parents for ROTP ( took me a while to convice them to the ROTP idea) and got my application in and processed, I had the intention of changing to NCM from ROTP as soon as I turned 18 last December. Instead of siting around waiting I decided to finish first year University ( tomorrow is my final exam and will be done first year!), to get the feel of it and also help with my application. I am quiet happy that my application was processed pretty fast and thus waiting it out like everyone else, I don't mind if I do not get the offer this year or the next, I will do everything within my grasp to improve, to have the honour to be selected and to serve under the flag.
