Great article. In this case the extra weight saved a life. Hopefully all soldiers/marines will make the same decision this Marine did.

I think, as the next evolution of our ballistic vest, we should have more protection under the arms, as these plates provide.

T6 -- I read the thread on LF - glad you posted here as well.

IF side plates are integrated into the PBA it is not that bad -- I have side plates in my RAV (I'm a coward and like to hedge bets) - with a properly contoured plate that fits into an internal sleeve on the PBA they are not bad.  The Interceptor add ons are a method -- not prefered, but additional protection no one can discount.

  Trades offs have to be made (like anything else) - in some cases the trade off will be worth it - some cases the added weight and encumberance will say no.

(I'm running Ultra Light weight plates so its not such a bitch for me, and like I said I'm a coward...)

I don't think "coward" would be the right word.  Hedging bets?  I think that's something that we all should do.  And, as someone once said (here?  elsewhere?) "If you find yourself in a fair fight, something has gone wrong"

Anybody know which MOLLE Armor Carrier support side SAPI?

I like the idea for hard side armor if I'm driving soft or up armored civ pats or G Wagon.
