My mom was telling me the other day that one of her friends sons signed up to be in the infantry but the wouldnt let him and said he could only be a cook. Is this something that happens often or not at all? my mom don't really know anything about the army and she might be wrong or she might be trying to stop me from joining myself. If what she is sayin is true what do they look at to decide who can and can't be a soldier. does size have anything to do with it?

Um I've never heard that before i think your friends mom doesn't know what she's talking about, or your friend could have done really bad on the aptitude test

If the person failed the Medical an CFAT requirements for Infantry or any other trade, they will be told what trades are available. An if you are V4 an score very low on the CFAT your only options maybe cook or steward.

If you want Infantry, an do fairly well on the CFAT an pass the medical and you get atleast V3 on vision, etc  you will get Infantry.

Every trade has its own physical requirements.  Vision, hear, etc.
As mentioned above if he doesn't meet the physical requirments for the Infantry then perhaps all he can do is cook.  Your friend or you should talk to the recruitment center if you really want to know.  They should have told him why though.

After being a cook in the Army you can at least get out and pursue a career in the restaurant business.  Infantry has traditionally been a bit more difficult to translate into civilian careers that don't involve guns....

ha i knew she didnt know what she was talking about. whats this aptitude test measure?

She is not the only.  Young man you are fodder for sarcasm and ridicule in this thread so stop now.  Spend some time at the recruiting website and visit your local recruiting office and/or spend a lot more time reviewing the recruiting section of this fine website.  And then and only then if you have a question come back on or send me a message.

I didn't think this thread could get any funnier after I read the title, but I was wrong. thanks for that Mike.
All the best
Bart

i didn't get that fodder for sarcasim thing is that some kind of insult? and i can capitalize and use punctuation just fine when i want to.

Well, that's how we do things here. Hopefully you will continue to read and learn, and try hard to post questions that are more to the expected standard of the site. If you wanted to and couldn't - you would be far better received than not wanting to, but able.

Do your research, and kincanucks has kindly offered his services, should you have any further questions. Good luck.

Language skills are not an unimportant attribute - and the increasing opportunity and requirement to communicate on the internet emphasizes the need to be able to express oneself clearly and concisely, developing logical arguments in open debate and be able not only to understand others, but to make oneself understood.

And none who follow basic principles of good language usage will be diminished for it.

The way you write may not be indicative of how smart and capable you really are, but it is indicative of how smart people are going to think you are.
