Sit-ups- Can They Be Replaced By Another Test?

Can this part of the phys test ever be waived or replaced with another abdominal excercise? Reason why I ask is because I have a surgical scar there, if too much pressure is put on it (sit ups) it has a chance of giving me problems again. I can probably do the sit-ups, but I'll probably have a good chance of tearing the scar open afterwards. Could I possibly use a cushion or something to help me relieve pressure off the tailbone? This has got me worried because I meet every other requirement and I could do the pushups, chin ups and running test exceeding their requirements, it's just the situps place pressure on the exact place I had my surgery. Thanks,

How do you plan on doing many of the tasks we do if sit ups may injure you?

Talk to the nice people at the recruiting centre.

How recent was your surgery?  I have had three abdominal surgeries and have no problems with sit ups.

You may have to schedule an appointment with your Surgeon and perhaps undergo corrective surgery for your scarring.

Best answer though, is to consult with the CFRC Medical Staff during your Medical and get their advice as to what you MAY have to do to correct this problem, or whatever else they may recommend.  Perhaps it may be a simple matter that you can do on your own, perhaps you will require professional help, or perhaps you will require further surgery.  All of this will be sorted out during your Medical.

The doctor told me my wound will most likely heal in the next  6-8 weeks. I talked to the recruiter and he said that after intial application my phys test may be only one month after my join date. I hope that is not the case as with many others on here who have taken at least 2-3 months to undergo testing. No corrective surgery is required, it's just in a very concentrated place where the skin is prone to tearing.

It sounds like a very recent surgery. I had major abdominal surgery a few years ago and my doc at the time told me not to lift anything "heavier or larger than a tea cup". Sit-ups would have been out of the question. One word: HERNIA. You may want to hold off applying for 6 weeks or longer. Although it could be a while before you complete all the testing, etc., you should be prepared for the opposite scenario. By the way, it was more like 6 months before the area around my scar completely healed and was not sore.
