Sorry to hear about your bad neighbours. My family has lived in the same home since 1978 and the neighbours have been great...so far.
Good neigbors are a real blessing!!! I've lived in some bad places but for the most part, for most of my life, I've been lucky to rent in places where landlords/ladies would never allow tenants to get away with major disturbing or violating other tenants and things. Most places have been very controlled and managed on those levels, thank goodness. I guess I'm spoiled in a way by those past standards so ending up living in a place where these issues have happened, and happen, is really hard on me
I think that any building/house is only as good as the management allows and ultimately the buck stops there.
Bumped into a nearby neighbor today who has lived in her placed for a long long time and we shared stories about the same buldings and owners etc, and our stories validated each others about some of the people problems in this little corner. Seems a lot of severe alcohol, drug and/or mental health issues behaviors have happened a lot right in this area that cause problems for people who have to live near them. Seems a couple or so buildings around here keeps getting rented to people with those problems and behaviors. They turf one set and rent to a new set, same lifestyles and behaviors. I was told its a bad part of town.
Was also told today that this part of town, block/s, that
people have bought up properties because they are waiting for ..... the zoning is to be changed to commercial at some point, so sounds like investors who really don't care a lot about what kinds of tenants they have or the problems with them, these buildings are money in the bank down the road I guess?
BTW, I ended up chatting with my elderly landlord (major character, cross between a huge kind heart and an irrascible impossibly rude and frustratingly impossible and contrary sort at times)

yesterday and mentioned the "fumes" so he is aware again and will take issue from whence the fumes come.
It's a crazy making joint here
Still ... compared to other stories I've heard about other places and problems, my problems are somewhere in the middle between a drag to put up with, and much more serious crap. In other words, bad, but not extreme at the moment. Thats good news I guess?
Argh. If I win the lotto I'll buy the whole neighborhood and kick everyone one and renovate and hand pick tenants myself
Or better yet, move to a safer and healthier environment so the negatives aren't sliding over into my home base and daily funtion! That would be bliss
