I thank you in advance for reading this lengthy inquiry.
I apologize if my questions have been answered in other posts, but I wasn't able to find information specific to my concerns.
Goals:
To create an application package for Naval Reserves and proceed in the most time-efficient manner.
To complete my application process in close proximity with the start of Basic Officer Training @ Esquimalt.
To serve with Victoria’s HMCS Malahat or Vancouver's HMCS Discovery, patrolling and protecting Canada's coastline.
To do as much training as possible on the West Coast.
Plan to begin as Class A, will consider Class B, not too sure about
Class C while my sons are still very young. :-\
Background, as it relates to my information request:
(Proud) Canadian citizen
Age: 38
OSSD [Ontario Secondary School Diploma]
Hons BA [Political Science]
MA [Political Science - International Relations]
Post-grad certifications
No criminal record
English, Japanese, and (rusty) French
E.g. of how comfortable I am in the ocean environment:
[] Have Canadian Pleasure Boat Operator Card
[] Have Instructor Certification as Scuba Instructor with CMAS
[] Soon to have Japanese Boat Captain's License
Very experienced in martial arts
Experienced in weaponry
Hold valid Canadian Driver's License [Car and Motorcycle].
Extensive leadership & teamwork experience.
Situation:
I am currently resident in Japan, but I am planning to return to Canada, so I write this from the perspective of someone who cannot easily go downtown to a recruiting centre.
As a result, I've mainly depended on the various services homepages.
I would like to have a thorough understanding of the timing of the application and training processes so that I can bring over my wife and sons with the least disruption possible.
As a result, most of my questions are concerned with process/timeline, and which steps can be completed while still abroad.
Positions of Interest:
Navy "Intelligence, Officer Naval Reserve" DEO.
Navy "Port Inspection Diver"
Cdn Special Forces Operations [no specific position listed on the sites]
Navy "Public Affairs" DEO
Questions:
Q1 Port Inspection Diver
I see this is an enlisted position.... Does that mean the only "officer" position would be NCO?
As I understand it, the app process is as follows:
[] CFAF apply online
[] (if approved) complete the eCFAT
Q2 Can the eCFAT be completed from anywhere, or does it require attending a testing centre in Canada?
Q3 Next - med exam - can I use a physician in Japan?
[]ERC:
Q4 Is it just a matter of giving signed consent, as I am/have been living abroad for about 10 years?
Q5 Since my wife is Japanese and my 2 sons [age 3 and 5] hold dual citizenship [Canadian Japanese], is this a security issue, concerning the ERC?
Interview:
Q6 I assume these are in usually in person - are they ever done via web cam or telephone?
Re: Basic Officer Training @ Assimilate
"First summer"...
Q7 Duration? [Is it the same 15 (9+6) weeks @ CFLRS?
Q8 Usual/approximate course dates?
Q9 I assume barracks housing is most likely mandatory on base, but is family housing provided?
Q10 Residency [whether solo or family] is paid for by government or rent paid by candidate?
Re: Naval Environmental Training Program
Q11 Location and Duration?
Q12 Usual/approximate course dates?
Q13 I assume barracks housing is most likely mandatory on base, but is family housing provided?
