The impulse exists in Quebec, and Scotland and Wales. It exists in Alberta and Saskatchewan and BC. But it also exists in Canada at large.

The underlying demand is for control. If people don't have a sense of control then they do one of two things - they reach out to like-minded individuals to assist them in taking control (association) or they seek to strike out on their own (independence). Fight or Flee.
