Hey guys! I need to find out some info on the SQ training on behalf of my husband. He's currently in Borden waiting... his SQ is supposed to start Aug. 8th and he's really worried about it. I would just like to ease his mind a little by letting him know what it's gonna be like. So, if anyone could let me know what it consists of... I'd really appreciate it!

Oh, and since I'm posting and while you're reading... does anyone know if the military would move me and my daughter to a PMQ in Borden while we're waiting for my husband to finish his training? It goes like this... SQ from Aug. 8th - Sept. 23rd and then his TQ3 from Nov. 3rd - Mar. 6th (of course his off for Christmas)

Anyways, if anyone could fill me in... it would be great. I hate being left in the dark! Nothing like 'hurry up and wait' with the military!

My SQ also begins Aug 08, interesting!

Check that topic, Gunner answered most of it on SQ

Personally I think people are making too big a deal out of the SQ. It's not some sort of death course if you can pass Basic you should be able to pass SQ. I'm not really dreading it whatsoever and neither should he

They will not give you a PMQ during his training, that will only happen after he completes it then get his posting. He'll have to apply for it once posted.

Hi there

I just finished my SQ in Wainwright 3 weeks ago and it wasn't near as bad as people in Borden make you think it is. I was pretty worried when I left for mine but in the end I had a blast. So let your husband know that its not that bad.

As for getting a PMQ, almost everyone I know who is in Borden (at least on PRETC) was able to get a PMQ and move their family up.

Anyway take care and tell your husban good luck.

So are you saying a candidate that is only in Borden for a course, can get a PMQ? Who pays to move his F&E. Who pays for his families transport. Where does the candidate stay during the week while on course, in the shack or at their PMQ? This doesn't sound right to me. How 'bout a link to the Base policy on this.

I have heard from military spouses that it depends on what type of posting you get to Borden.  If it is an attached posting the spouse can join but at the expense of the family.  If it is an actual posting to that base and you are awaiting training and that time plus training is going to be six months or longer than the military will post you at their expense.

Now with this being said my husband is posted to Kingston with an attached posting to Borden.  His Trade Training is six months long and starts in January.  What they are going to do at Borden is tranfer him back to Kingston in October to do OJT so that we can move in October to be with him prior to and during his trade training.

You really just need to talk to you superiors and see what they can do.  If there is a way to get you all together as a family than they will figuer somehting out for you if it is possible.

yes i too am posted in borden and in fact just came back from meaford doing my SQ today. Tell your husband not too worry too much about SQ as long as the instructors see that your putting 100%effort into what they tell hime to do he shouldn't have a problem. One thing to remember is that they play a lot of mind games with you in SQ and what seems to pointless and stupid really does serve a purpose and he will realize it when the course is finished. SQ is a little tougher tha n basic training because most of the instructors are combat arms and they push the support trades as much as possibe to turn every canadian troop into a great soldier.

As for you and your family moving to the PMQ's there are different circumstances for each and every person such as how long your husband is going to be in borden along with many more reasons. The only advice i know for him to do is to go into his company offfice and explain his situation. well i really hope my advice will help your husband.
