start date of WW2

Did WW2 start (officially) on 1 Sept 1939 or 3rd Sept 1939. The 1st wuz the german invasion of poland, and the 3rd was the declaration of war on germany by  england and france, et all,

Depends who you ask and how you want to define what exactly the 'start' of a war is. Most commonly cited, though is the third.

Canada declared war on the 10th of September, so we weren't part of "et al"

WW II can be said to have started in the 1930s also, with the Japanese invasion of China - or possibly on 7 December 1941 when the United States was brought into the war.  Or 8 December, when war was actually declared by the US on Japan.  Or the 10th (?) when Germany declared war on the USA....

As Mr. Gaisford says, it depends on definition...
